    +1

I can eat a LOT, of a lot of different things, but y'all who like the boiled peanuts don't need to worry about me deleting the supply in the least.

Watch how many you eat though because they can bring "Angry Butt" and "Ring of Fire" if you're not careful.

I never had boiled goobers but what's good is fava beans. Friend of mine originally from Bolivia used to grow them out on his place by Lake Thunderbird. That guy was quite a story. Jorgito. He turned me onto those 25 years ago, way before that idiot line from that movie.
But, for the record, they are good with a red wine.

Yeah baby Wasabi peas are the bomb and John is right. Johnny Cash seems to be singing in the bathroom the next day!

BTW I never heard of boiled peanuts until I watched an episode of Paula Deen making them. This was a while back and wanted to try some when I was at Ted's Polkfest but forgot about them once the festivities and the low country boil hit the table. Plus everytime we went out to breakfast I couldn't get enough of grits and sausage gravy & biscuits over eggs. YUUUUMMMMM!!! Also on the way down to Ted's, Jesse made a detour to a place Troy turned him on to that sold BBQ sammichs & sweet tea. I couldn't fit another bit in.

I loves down home Southern country cookin', my tastes buds thank you, my belly thanks you, but my plumbing seems to get clogged up!:D

It's all about the seasoning, which is the part I can't seem to get right. To be fair, I haven't tried very hard, but those country folks keep it secret.

Hmm, apparently I need to try some REAL boiled peanuts. Always had them outta the can from wallyworld, and they've always been good enough for me.

Really makes me wonder how nice it'd be to sit in a rocker on the side of a highway out in the middle of nowhere, chewing on some home made boiled peanuts, drinking some Coke from a glass bottle. Sounds like a pretty nice deal to me!

Anybody tried a deep fried Oreo?

I brokered Southern Yellow Pine lumber from '84 to '96 and travelled extensively in the south. I'm with F1 on the boiled nuts. On the other hand, Southern BBQ and a good crawfish boil are another matter!

True indeed, the flavor is in the water. You want the flavor to get through the shell and into the peanut so the key is to keep tasting your water. I suggest using about 2 cups of chicken broth to your water with about 1/2 cup salt. Also I let the peanuts soak for a good 30 mins before boiling. You don't have to do this but it helps the peanuts to sink easier. The batch I made yesterday cooked for about 4:20. Try it guys, they are yummy.

They will get a tad bit softer but not soggy or chewy. You should start trying them after 3hrs or so to get them to your liking. Once your water starts boiling then add your seasoning (salt, broth, other spices if you like).

Yes, but they have to be raw peanuts.

I like to crack one end of the shell and suck all the juice then eat the peanuts.

Soak them 30 mins, don't shell them at all. While they are soaking boil your water, add your chicken broth (2cups) ,salt (1/2 cup) when your water comes to a boil. Once you do that, drain your peanuts then add them to your boiling water. Boil for 3-4 hrs. After around 3 hrs or so taste them, you want the salt/flavor to get through the shell and into the peanuts. So add flavor if need be. As mentioned, they need to be raw peanuts and rinse them a few times until your water comes clear before soaking.

The shell is all the flavor, so I eat mine this way too.
