    Not starting any fights here, but as a drummer for 30+ years, I can't name you the greatest of all time, (he/she hasn't been born yet) but for almost every "favorite" that's listed, I can think of at least one other that smokes him in one way or another.

    Very true . . . He could not only play the rhythm and beat, he at the same time could play the melody of the song while doing the rest. He could even duel with Page & Plant playing the melody.

    He definitely was one of a kind. . . too bad the junk got to him.

    I will have to confess my ignorance of Buddy Rich. I don't know if he was just a bit before my time or just not my genre.

    Yes, and he is 2nd best drummer of all time. ;)

    I just got pumped up after watching it; he is actually amazingly rock solid given all those moves.

    I've heard he always played out of sync, a little ahead of the beat, with Page quite often. Great drummer, don't get me wrong.

    It's true. Part of Zep's famous "driving sound" was due to the inherent sloppiness of the band. I love them, don't get me wrong people, but Page was (is) a sloppy ****. Bonham followed him around. John Paul Jones was the glue that held it all together.

    What about Jonny Vidacovich, Zigaboo, and Galactic's drummer? Buddy Rich always seemed a little stiff to me.

    Galactic's drummer is Stanton Moore (A student of Vidacovich btw) and he is bad ****. Saw him with a band called Freqinox at an all night club during JazzFest this year. Absolutely smoking set at 3:00 am!

    Are you a fan of the New Orleans music scene? Do you get down this way much?

    Sorry, just rushing and I love Stanton (to o much food at lunch). I was in New Orleans for a while, roaming, around 1999. Saw one of my faves, Allen Toussaint, at Jazz Fest with other notables. I'd love to come back someday...is the music scene still strong?

    I used to know Allen pretty well. Had a steady gig as a house engineer at Tippitina's in the Quarter in the mid 90's and he played every Thursday night. Nice guy.

    The music scene is coming back and has evolved slightly from what it used to be like for so long (See: Trombone Shorty). But I have a deep love affair with N.O and it's music. Maybe we could meet up at Jazzfest next year!
