When you say enjoy, are you being sarcastic or are there examples of something that he has written that contained even a kernel of intelligence?

Bingo.....Bono is so full of himself, he makes my skin crawl at the mention of his name.

No, I meant to be neither facetious nor sarcastic. Bono knows he's full of himself, and he does the arch-egotist schtick of self-deprecation amazingly well.

Most memorable line to me is..

    "OUTSIDE, IT'S AMERICA"

from their song "Bullit the blue sky". That song sounds great at 95 db's.;)
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

Love the Tenacious D comment, but I was sure this was another Led Zeppelin thread and sadly I find myself in a U2 thread? A decent band for sure, but I wouldn't put greatest band or earth in anything to describe them.

U2 was (perhaps still is, it's definitely debatable) a great band . The ZooTV tour (Birmingham,Al) still ranks as one of the greatest concerts I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of shows.

Their first several records are amazing. Joshua Tree and the song "One" are timeless classics. They will outlive anything most of us will ever accomplish.

    Carry on.

    lol...I actually thought that too.

Not that I think they're the greatest, but I do enjoy them.

Anyone heard of a band named Led Zep. Even now, minus a member and in their 60's LZ could wipe the floor with U2. I like some of their earlier stuff and up to Actung Baby. They sold out big time after that. I still enjoy The Joshua Tree, Unforgetable Fire and Actung.

IMO, they are far from the greatest band ever. The Edge was completely transfixed watching Jimmy Page in the doucmentary "It Might Get Loud", I thought that was kind of cool.

You should be proud of having your own opinions. Not everybody has them (although everybody thinks they do).

U2 is a, um, fine band. I know people who like them very much. I went to one of their concerts (1985?) and found it...enjoyable. I sometimes think about listening to one of their CDs, but then put on something else.

I was briefly selling audio equipment (on commission) at The Wiz in the early 1990s. An attractive young woman came in looking for a new stereo, with Actung Baby as her audition CD. After getting to know what she liked and didn't like, I sold her some nice Onkyo Integra gear and sent her to Atlantic Stereo to buy M&K sub/satellite speakers ('cause the Wiz didn't have any that were worth much).

She later sent me a thank you note with an interesting invitation.;) Being married, I didn't act on it, but have always wondered......

Well put Dawg. I appreciate that. I therefore stand by my thought about U2 being the greatest band ever. As far as U2's, or more specifically, Bono's 'politics', there is rarely a band ANYWHERE that doesn't throw in some of their own political views into their music somewhere. That's our culture. We are all throwing around our own beliefs and views on this site, a forum on POLKS website. As far as the movie "It might get loud", I watched it very intently, 3 times. I feel that the Edge is one of the most technically sound guitarists in modern music history. To me, it was PAINFUL to watch Jimi Page. Another story. As far as selling out, I'd LOVE to hear the actual definition of that. They make music. They evolve.
Anyone that thinks Bono is an idiot, just might need to check the mirror.
I appreciate everyones comments. It was fun.

Let's get back to talking about hdmi cables, and Polk speakers, and home theater!! :)

U2 was a good band and I enjoyed them 20-something years ago. There are currently many bands that are much better than U2.

But it's so much easier to find an effigy to burn... don't ya know?

He's obviously a horrible, horrible man. When I go to work tomorrow. Stare down a good, healthy hour or four at Club Polk, cash my paycheck, smoke a celebratory post-work cig, and may/or may not consider an .89 cent burrito from Taco Hell, I'll fill myself with boundless joy just knowing how horrible... terrible... despicable Bono is.

I hope he dies in a fire. Repeatedly. Because I, nay "we", are obviously doing SO much more.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I have to agree with the Dawg here. I may not be a fan of U2 but hey...no one can take away what you 'hear'. Not a one of us.

    Stick with what you like.
