Having issues with a Pioneer TS-W308D4

I bought the sub about two weeks ago along with a Pioneer GM-D8500M class D mono amp. The sub is rated for 400w RMS and 1400w peak (willing to bet there wouldn't be much of it left if I pumped that much juice to it though lol) I have it wired for a 2 ohm load and the amp puts out 600w RMS at 2 ohms. I know for a fact I have the sub itself wired right aswell as the amp but when I turn it up to the point where it starts to thump there is a faint popping noise. Sometimes it only does it once in awhile when I have it turned up, other times it starts doing it at a slightly lower volume and more frequently. I have tried turning my gain on the amp all the way down but it still does it. Someone told me it might be a box issue but im sure it's not. I have it in a Q logic slot vent box at 1.5 cu.ft tuned to 32hz. If anyone has any advice or any idea on what I should do it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would suggest you double and triple check all the speaker connections on the amp, the box and the speaker. It sounds like there might be a stray strand of speaker wire touching something it shouldn't.
If that doesn't work, see if you can borrow another sub from someone to hook to your amp. That way you would be able to tell if the problem lies in the speaker or the amp. -
Isn't that sub rated for 4 ohms ? How exactly do you have it hooked up for 2 ohms ?HT SYSTEM-

It's a dual 4ohm voice coil sub... if you wire the inner + and - posts together than run the outer + and - posts to the +/- on your amp it's wired for 8ohms. Now I have the -/- and +/+ wired together on the sub and the outer +/- going to my amp which would bring it down to 2 ohms.

and thanks for the suggestion Beef, I checked it again last night and the wiring was fine. No loose strands of wire or anything like that. I talked to an old friend who works in a car audio store out of town and I told him what was going on. He thinks it's the sub and it can't handle the amp. I barley even turned the gain up on the amp last night and I thought my sub was going to explode... it sounded pretty rough and than you could smell the voice coil burning. I think im just going to blow the piece of **** lol. I ordered a couple Pioneer TS-W3002D4 (1000w RMS / 3500W peak) subs.
