Well, Texas is on a roll. After In-N-Out burger, it seems that they will also be getting Formula 1 next:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8711854.stm
... State capital Austin will host F1's return to America from 2012 after it fought off rivals, including New York.

Asked why he chose Austin, F1 supremo Ecclestone told BBC Sport: "Because they're prepared to build exactly the sort of circuit we want."

Favoured architect Hermann Tilke will design the new F1 track. ...
Alea jacta est!

That's what they said about US F1. Unless I see the Prancing Hourse stateside I am very leary of believing this one.

They also say that Indy is coming to downtown Baltimore.

Well they have definitely been talking it up a little bit on the local sports radio shows here.. of course they haven't even picked a site yet, but the Intention is currently there to bring F1 racing to the Austin Texas metro area.

While I'm glad that F1 is coming back (I'm not holding my breath), I would have preferred the NY site.

I felt very fortunate to have the USGP just a few hours from home for 8 years, and I never missed one. The 2000 race at Indy was, at the time at least, the largest crowd in F1 history. So, there are definitley enough fans in the U.S. to support a race. Although it now means a plane flight, I think TX is a great location, and I'll be there if it happens! Now, if we can just get an American team/driver...

Well the plan is for sure to put a track out on the limits of the city.. there won't be any downtown Austin racing that's for sure,.. I've never been one for racing in particular but I think if it does make it to Austin, I would have to definitely go check it out.

and while the stereotype is that southern boys love their cars.. its mostly NASCAR, but they feel Austin is more a F1 town than a NASCAR town, and I'd probably have to agree.

I attended an F1 race in 1980 in Dallas at the Fair Park location - it was a blast but the track did not hold up well. 3 days of racing and up close vies in the garage (ice hockey arena). I don't see how a new track can be contructed inless than 2 yrs.

Upstate New York is pretty rural, not many yuppies running around there, believe me. I think you'd find more yuppies in Austin. I would have liked NY better because the track and the area resembles some of the great European courses.

F1 will be coming to Baltimore in August 2011, they are beginning the task of re doing the road around the inner harbor to prep for this, I personally am EXCITED for this, as I have always been an avid F1 fan for years.
