MD-I'm just saying that pure analog RULEZ! If you screw that up, you don't deserve the privilege of tunes.

Mike, I was just venting bro. It could need cleaning, or(and this is honestly most likely) I need to MOVE IT! It lives above my AVR(literally above it, like on it), however my AVR wasn't really soaking any power-I use a different power amp for the M12's.

I'm just glad that I've got the TT. No tunes for a day and I'd go apes#$%, as I'm sure most of you here would also.

I'll power it up tomorrow morning after the wife and kids leave and see what it does, and go from there.

Yep, that is a bummer... I hate when they start skipping and then you know it's just a matter of time. I got an even better solution than the vinyl tho: music server.

My father raves about music servers. Guess I'm old skewl. I like how warm analog is-BUT in all fairness I've honestly never heard really good digital. YAMIT, so I guess this thread has turned into a dyi dac/source deal. Any suggestions?

Right, I didn't mean that sound quality from digital is better than analog. It's definitely just a straight convenience / economy play. (Kinda like the tubes vs. solid-state tradeoffs, but I definitely don't want to drag this thread there.) Thing is, I have a friend who lives in the boonies and has a big room (well, I'd guess it to be 16' x 20') dedicated to audio and especially vinyl. The vinyl takes up two full walls. I don't think I'll ever be lucky enough to give that kind of space to the hobby, but I can fit my entire (admittedly smaller) music collection uncompressed on a music server.

None of my equipment sounds as good as his, but it does sound as good as when I have a cheap ($250-ish) turntable hooked up to my gear. Granted, the server is going via SPDIF to either a Benchmark DAC1 (wasn't cheap, even used) or a modded Lite DAC AH. The Lite DAC is a non-oversamping DAC and it sounds almost as good as the Benchmark except for it has a very noisy floor. It's maybe the mods (someone else modded it) but I couldn't really recommend it.

Anyway, there's another thread going recently about using Apple TV vs Squeezebox Touch as music servers. The Squeezebox Touch with an external hard drive looks like a pretty nice combination. I use a Patriot Box Office media player with a hard drive I installed. But media players like the PBO need to be connected to a TV to navigate to your tunes. The PBO is a lot cheaper ($150 including the hard drive, which is bought separately). And, they all sound decent by themselves, so a DAC isn't absolutely necessary. (The little PBO by itself sounded better than both a JVC CD player and Toshiba HDCD / DVD / DVD-Audio player, which was supposed to be pretty good for its time.)

So like I said, it doesn't compete with a nice analog setup, but it takes up sooo much less space than vinyl. Way less even than the several hundred CD's worth of music it's holding. And with a nice DAC it's going to sound just as good as any CD transport.

Kyle-Guess I should have narrowed it down a bit for you. It will power up, and recognize the carousel. When it starts to index the CD's it drops them off, one by one until it says no disc. Since I posted this, I've narrowed it down to the power supply(anyone know where to get a schematic reasonably cheap). After being unplugged for a few days, it powers up and indexes a couple of CD's, then starts doing it's no data thing.

So how is it a power supply, if everything literally powers up and moves? Your problem is either a laser or some part in the control circuitry. Unplugging it for a few days most likely cleared the memory chipset, so that the changer tried to read something with slightly higher voltage at the beginning, and you got your indexes at the beginning.

"Reasonably cheap" - unless you can find the schematic for free on the web, there are a few websites that usually will sell you one for around $15 USD.

I think the trouble shooting section is for POLK PRODUCTS, not just every gear problem. Certainly post your gear issues, but perhaps in the electronics or 2 channel section. I've noticed a lot of random posts here.

The intent is for customers to get a dialog going if they are having issues with a POLK branded product.

    Just food for thought.

That's why I'll never buy another CD/DVD changer. All those moving parts just add up to more things that can break or screw up the way I see it.
