By this time they should have been ready, but I've been too busy and not enough time to dedicate to this project. Just following P.Gunn's xover and frame mods.

Thought some might be interested in seeing some pictures (I'm not a woodworker....but I'm learning).

Still work in progress.

So far, so good. What's left, grill cloth?

Yes, cloth that I've been avoiding because the stapling can be tricky; looking for a good glue...any recommendations? Cloth will go between the frame and an 1/8" masonite shim. Figure that with a good glue I can minimize the amount of staples and reduce the risk of cracking the frame.
Also need to put all the inserts for the brackets/struts/cones, cut the struts and get the cones for the bases.

I've used hot glue before. I'm sure any headliner adhesive type spray glue would work too.

You say that because you are not looking up close.
what type of wood did you use??

Frames are maple, xover boxes are cherry, and bases are oak.

I don't know yet. Need to finish the mods before listening. Hopefully I will have time to do it soon.

An extremely neat project! I'll bet the improvement is very worthwhile. I've never had the chance to hear any "Gunn'ed" Maggie's, but the upgrade seems to be very well liked.

Do you have any other detailed photos of how the driver panel is attached to the main frame? I've been trying to brainstorm some ideas for improving my 1.6's, and that will be part of it.

Other than what's in the slideshow? No....but what's there should be enough....

-1/8" masonite shims; cloth goes between these and the frame, glue and staples. Leave open space for the panel's cross bars.

    524.jpg

-Drill through the panel into the frame. Just make sure you don't go all the way through....the paper/tape is to avoid any metal shavings to stick to the panels...remember there's magnets there.
Picture does not show the drilled holes, but you get the idea.

    531.jpg

-Screws attach the panel to the frame, through the drilled holes.

    533.jpg

You should definitely do the wood frame. Everyone that owns a Maggie should.

I haven't tried yet. Just the MMG's for now, and as mentioned I am impressed with the improvement in the bass department. I have two micropro 3000's and will work on integrating them later on. I did have the one in the picture playing with them before the mods, and really liked how they played together.

Thanks for the explanation of the driver panel attachment. Very straightforward. I'm sure it's better than the original staples.

Finally!!!! The finished product. It's been a while, but today I installed the vertical struts. They are not really necessary, but I had them ready so decided to finish the job.

Sounding beautifully. Did I say that all Magnepan owners should replace that MDF frame???

Huh? Sounds like tight tolerances and very smooth finishing would be required. I hereby pronounce myself as incapable of such things. ;)

Awesome craftsmanship, Ricardo! It'll take me years of practice to create a mortise and tenon joints looking that good.
