At work I once asked the person in charge of our Leeds Gold building how much per square foot does it save the environment, carbon footprint, electricity, water, compared to a non Leeds certified building?
Meaning what did we get in exchange for that fancy metal Leeds Symbol out front. He said I don't know. I asked why.
He said that's not part of the Leeds Certification. He said it has to do with where the materials came from and the conservation design.
But you can't actually measure it against a non Leeds building, right?
    No.
    Why?
Because we don't know what an average building would averagely save you. It be better or it could be worse.
Ummmm...... So you control the market then on certification right?
    No.
    Why?
There are a few other standards.
    I see.
    How do they differ?
Well, we actually consult together and our standards are pretty close as we learn more and with new tech.
    So you price fix?
    What does that mean?
You're like a cartel, like Opec and you organize together to control the stamp like they control the oil.

This person you talked to was a moron-If he had any brains he could tell you those answers which are REQUIRED to be answered when the building undergoes certification, on average a LEED "Gold" building will use 24-45% less energy, 40-60% less water depending on what other credits the building pursued (density, material reuse, alternative commute, greenspace, etc...)

Also LEED is the only standard recognized by the US government to certify for "greenness" the others are just dumb-People looking to get paid... Also, if you're a gold certified or better building, guess how much you paid USGBC for the rating? Try $0....
There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin
