Stapling grill cloth on the 1.2tl's

I am having a hard time putting staples in the frame for the grill cover to pin down the cloth. I know seems like an easy task but the staples do not want to go in. I thought the frame was just MDF but this **** is hard. I pulled the staples out so I should be able to put staples in. I had no problems with the 1C's. is there some magical staple I need? Or some special tool? I am using an electric stapler (Power Shot Pro) question is what do I do, and need?

Thanks,

Larry.

Shorter staples? They are less likely to bend the "legs".
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. I've never seen staples used on SDA speakers. The cloth is always glued on.

Larry, I stand corrected. I was thinking of the side panels that I've seen.

The air powered staplers that the pro's use never seem to have a problem getting a staple to seat.

I was just thinking about that and wondering where I might borrow one.

surely you have access to a compressor. at work? you need one for the home. and harbor freight (yeah, i said it) is good enough to purchase inexpensive pneumatic staplers. mine all work grand.

I look my grills to an autosound shop that had the correct materials and tools. Cost me twenty bucks to have them stapled on and stretched

I used an Arrow Model T50 stapel gun with T50 3/8" staples for all my SDA grille recloth work. I bought the gun and staples at Home Depot. I made sure I held the gun firmly against the grille to prevent recoil and the spring powered T50 had no problem driving staples all the way into the MDF (or whatever it is the grille frames are made of).

This is all great stuff. My buddy is returning to me a 30 year old pair of RTR 300 D's that I sold him back in the '80s and I'm going to be performing major surgery on them when he drops them off.

A few people here were unimpressed by them but they were in their day a great tower speaker. As a matter of fact, it was those & RTR 600 Ds that I replaced with a first run set of SDA/SRSs back in 1984. I can't wait till they come home to papa.

A big misconception on the forum is that the material commonly referred to and believed to be MDF, is in fact, plain old particle board. Sometimes that stuff can be very hard to penetrate with fasteners and having a helper to stretch the fabric while you shoot the staple might work out better for you. If you do a practice/test shot while firmly holding the stapler down on the surface, and if the staple doesn't seat properly, your stapler is not operating correctly and you should try another one. I use a vintage Duofast (manual type) that will sink a 9/16" staple in solid oak with no sweat, you can find one of them on ebay for very little $$ and possibly return the electric one.Good Luck !:)

Yeah, I should have stated that all of the speakers I own are constructed of particle board, and not MDF.

This stapler is the best I've found yet. It's never let me down on grill frames and odd jobs I've asked it to do.
Cheap, uses standard staples AND shoots up to 1 1/4" brads.
It's the one that you actually put forward pressure on when you depress the handle to activate the stapler.
It even put 1/8" staples in my AR9LSi plastic frames when I replaced the cloth on them.
    Recommended product..

Same here, but maybe with 1/4" I think.

I was having serious shoulder pain and sometimes I was medicated pretty well during that period and I might have used 3/8" to.
Maybe tomorrow I'll pull one out and see.

I found a block or book the same thickness as the grill wood and used it as support for the rear of the staple gun. My wife and I had both SDA-SRS2 grills done in 2 hrs. That was casual work speed too.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.
