Why You Should Keep the Front License Plate on Your Corvette!

Okay, so this is a bit dumb!
A former NASCAR driver who led deputies on a chase in his Corvette that reached speeds of up to 140 mph has been sentenced to a month in jail and probation.

James Neal, who was driving a 2003 Corvette, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to misdemeanor felony evasion while driving recklessly.

Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said deputies tried to pull the 56-year-old over at 3 a.m. Monday in San Clemente for a minor infraction, but he took off. Amormino said Neal was arrested on Interstate 5 in San Diego County after his engine blew up.

Amormino said officers just wanted to talk with Neal about his license plates.
Apparently, the pursuit lasted a mere 50miles.

I'd rather pay the ticket than put a front plate on.

    Five O.

Couple of questions. Why have a Ford name plate as your screen name ???

As a fellow Vette owner the worst thing you can do to a vette, besides putting a stupid wing on them, is keep the front plate on them. GROSS.

    What year is that ??? 2001 with 385 or 2002 + with the 405 ??

    Nice pic Face !!!!
Also, as a fellow LE agent we can get around this. :)

I thought all later model Corvettes came from the factory without any front license plate accommodation.

In California you will get pulled over/chased down without one. Who needs that?

If I can get my DeLorean up to 88 mph, you won't have a chance to catch me (assuming I didn't forget plutonium for the required 1.21 gigawatts).

Nope, Mom has one on her C6. Came from the factory with the license plate bracket.

I recently moved to ohio and its a 2 license plate state but I have no idea what purpose the 2nd plate serves? What are the chances a local cop is even going to notice me not having the front plate and being a Ohio registered car?

I need to find out the penalty and decide if its worth the risk

He (and the car) reside in Florida now.

The "Five O" in my name comes from LE, not from Mustangs. That car was a 2001 with a stroked 422cid. I sold that car in 2005 and have had 3 more since then. Here's another shot of it.

One purpose is things like red light cameras. In general, a plate is there so you can be easily identified; sometiems you have to be identified from the front. :)

I didn't realize they were that tough on it, but it make sense, since I only see a vehicle without one on the front about once a week or so.

What is certainly true is that you cannot park in any of the public parking lots at LAX or you will be ticketed for no plate, so those who want to tempt fate need to at least park in the privately owned lots when going on vacation or a business trip.

Can you imagine trying to run from the cops, though, and have your engine blow up after fifty miles, days before you were supposed to attempt a new speed record in that same car? Maybe they did him a favor, and God is trying to send him a timely hint!

When I did my po0lice internship we pulled over an eclipse that had no front license plate, and no where to put it. Even though it was stock and not after-market he still got the ticket.
He did try to evade a little bit, we were on the I-95 he ran for about 15 miles and then gave up and pulled at a rest stop.
I know the cops in my area are extremely picky about that stuff.
Mostly because in some places we have cameras that take pictures of your front end if you run a red light.
SO they get your face, front end and... licensee plate.
