They are an appliance and electronics store. They just showed up in the area. They sent out flyers with sale prices that seem real good but their ads are kinda misleading. No specs in the ad. Also, prices on their website are cheaper than their sale prices.

Anybody know anything about them? They seem Best Buy-ish.

I don't like them a whole bunch, but they are about the only game in town where I live.

Another big box retailer ala Best Buy. I will say that their staff, at least near where my parents live, are much more knowledgable than any of the other big box electronic retailers....

Don't expect anything on the high-end scale.

Mostly just entry level stuff. Still worth a trip. Some of the prices were rather decent.

We're getting one in my area too. I think they open this Thursday. I've looked at their web site before. They look to be a TV & appliance store. The audio equipment they carry looks to be bottom of the barrel. Maybe their in-store selection will be better? Eh, I haven't bought audio equipment in a B&M store for years anyway.

I'm just asking because they have a 42" Panasonic plasma, a nice unit, for about $480 on this "Grand Opening" sale. The ad has no info in it at all. So I went online to look. Not a whole ton of info there so I was going on price. The online price is $10 cheaper without the sale than the store. Also, the panny is in a field of 1080p HDTV's and it's only a 720p. Kinda deceiving IMO.

Anyway, I might go pay them a visit just to see what they have. So far though, I'm not impressed. they seem to be a high volume seller so they go for what the average Joe is gonna drop coin on just to brag to his neighbors.

Well, yeah, it's just a general use TV for the living room. That will do fine for that. It's not gonna be the "showcase" TV in a home theater setup. That will eventually be a 60" Pioneer plasma unless the OLED units come out in something bigger and affordable. I was just disappointed because I thought it was the 1080p model and when I went and looked, it was 720p and they wanted $200 more for the 1080p that I thought they were advertising. I would have been mighty pissed off if I went to the sale on Thursday and found that. I probably would have had to buy the floor model and then bail myself out of jail for putting my fist through the floor model. I think I can beat that price anyway. I think BJ's has the same TV $20 less than hhgregg's sale price. I gotta go look again.

I dont care for them much. I bought my plasma from there. They have good pricea and they'll wheel and deal with you on the price some which is cool but theyve only got a 10 day return policy which blows.

Their salesmen are on commission so they start molesting you as soon as you walk in the door but they're no more knowledgeable than Best Buy salesmen.

It didn't even occur to me to search for it on Club Polk. Especially since they don't seem to be much of a Polk dealer. They carry the TSi series which is pretty much entry level Polk and found everywhere. Doesn't even show up on my radar as a Polk dealer, honestly.

I find it better to buy appliances from a local guy because they tend to have better support. Also, they carry stuff that is popular in the area and when it does break, it's easier for the repair dude to find parts. The only other place I go usually is Sears for appliances because they support everything they sell with a national network.

I'm probably going to have to wait for the discontinued stuff though. They usually don't stock a brand new store with stuff they aren't selling anymore. Looks bad, like a bait and switch. CompUSSR used to do that all the time. Used a new store opening to unload discontinued items on clearance level prices but they never told anybody. Some gets a smokin' deal on something and raves about CompUSSR. Other people show up and think the raver is nuts because everything is double the price now that the junk has been cleared out and the regularly carried stuff is on the shelves.

What's the model number? I just bought a 42" Panny Plasma 720p through Dell w/ free delivery for $499. Sounds like the same Model and that's a great price and I love it. Because I'm the same way no need for bragging rights or to have the best, cutting edge TV.

I say go look at it because that's a helluva deal for a nice name brand TV and the Panny gets good reviews compared to the no-name off brand stuff.

This is the TV. And apparently the price online changed from last night. Maybe it was a mistake.

    http://www.hhgregg.com/ProductDetail.asp?SID=n&ProductID=24613

Panasonic 42" Class 720p Plasma HDTV (41.6" diagonal size)
    Model No: TCP42C2
Make every night family night. This Plasma HDTV is ideal for watching action-packed sports, shows and movies with the family. The 600Hz Sub-field Drive offers crisp, focused images during fast-moving scenes.

But WAL*MART has the 1080p version of teh same TV for the regular price of the 720p model at hhgregg.

    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Panasonic-TC-P42U1/13968931

Then again, Amazon has the same 720p TV for $494 and it's eligible for free shipping. Amazon doesn't charge NJ sales tax as far as I know either.

I'll see on Thursday. If they have them in stock and will match prices from online retailers, I might get it. It's a decent TV and gets great reviews. The only negatives I've seen are from people who are expecting way too much for the price-point they are shopping in.

I know it is a matter of opinion, but I honestly don't think 1080p on a 42" is going to provide much of a noticeable difference over 720p. I have two of the Panasonic 720p 42" plasmas and both have great pictures.

I bought the TCP42C1 which as far as I can tell is exactly the same as the TCP42C2. There were some complaints in user reviews about the black level fading over time to which Panasonic stated wasn't the case, but apparently (again from reading on-line) the "C2" model addressed this non-issue. But C1 models produced after Feb 2010 (of which mine is) also addressed this issue even though Panasonic stated there never was an issue.

It's still a damn nice TV for $500 or less.

Yeah, I saw that. But the 1080p has a few more options on it than the 720p. Are they worth it? Depends on if you will use them. Like I said though, it's a good TV and worth looking at. But the store doesn't open until Thursday and even if I don't get it in the sale, I can get that $480-$490 price elsewhere.

HH Gregg isn't that exciting, but, in my area, they blow Best Buy out of the water (I have heard we have a really terrible BB and a better than average HH though)

Commissioned sales people means you get their attention, instead of being a nuisance, and they'll drop the price if it seems like you're on the fence about something. I really like the commission approach, as both the customer and the employee win, at least imo.
