How to make LSi 9's less boomy
I have a stereo audio set up using Rotel RB1080 amp & Lsi 9's. Until recently they were set up with a distance of 20 inches from the walls but i had to shift residences & the new room where the speakers are placed is quite small (as compared to the previous room) & i can place them max 10 inches from the wall (& one speaker is at the corner wall).
This has made the bass very boomy. With other rear ported speakers the manufacturers recommend placing foam plugs in the bass ports to reduce the bass if needed. But that option is not available with the LSi's due to the Power Port.
So any suggestions to make them sound less boomy ? (for ex. will placing a carpet on the wall behind the speakers help ?)
Thanks

Also one more thing. In my old room the Lsi's were placed on speaker stands whereas now they are kept on a wide table( the hieight of the stands & Table is the same). Maybe the Bass is reflecting off the tables surface ?MAC Mini 3.1, OSX 10.6, 2.53 GHZ, Intel Core 2 Duo with SSD & 6 GB Ram, Audio GD NFB-7,2009 Macbook Pro 15" 4 gb ram OS 2.5 Ghz X 10.5.8, Apogee Duet, Signal Cable Silver Resolution Cables & power chords through out the system,Isotek GII Vision, Polk Audio LSI9 speakers (2 pairs, one with Custom external crossover by Sking Ninja), Cayin / Spark AT70 integrated amp, Audio GD Master 1 pre amp, Rotel RB1080 power amp.

Try cutting a piece of carpet to match the footprint of the speaker or setting the speakers on sorbothane blocks. The "boominess" may be resonance from the table you have them sitting on. If that doesn't work, try hanging some heavy fabric on the wall behind the speakers.

My Pre amp has Hi-Mid-Low eq controls. Reduded the low eq control by about 20%, sounds fine now.

Upgrade the crossovers. Also try moving them a little further from the wall.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

The best way to make them less boomy is to sell them and get the Lsi7's. And that's if you dig the Lsi line , other then that it's time for new speakers.
Honestly I think the Lsi9's are the worse speaker in the Lsi line. I owned them along with the 15's Center and FX's . They are exactly what you say here , they are very boomy. They seem like they try to play to low and do a bad job at it.
If you are using a surround receiver , cut them at 80hz and let a good quality sub handle everything else.
