Has anyone picked up the Deluxe CD or Super Deluxe CD/LP/DVD version yet?

What you don't get with the LP that you get with the Deluxe CD are the extra tracks on a second CD.

Hmmmm . . . no mention at all about the vinyl i.e., heavy vinyl (180/200 gm), virgin vinyl etc. Also no mention as to what format was used for the vinyl i.e., DSD, digital, analog etc.

I think a call to Music Direct is in order.

    hmm...This is very enticing.

I really need to add some more padding to my Stones collection too. I don't have nearly enough of their stuff.

All of my Stones collection is on vinyl and most of it is really well done. The only album I have to replace is "Sticky Fingers." I had the original with the zipper and all but it got destroyed in a a flood back in 2002 and I wasn't able to restore it. I have other copies but they are beat too and don't have the zipper.

I picked up the LP version last Saturday at Strictly Discs in Madison WI. I just got it cleaned last night and had time to play one side. It sounded very good. I'll try to listen to it entirely tonight. I have the original in mint shape, so if I have time I can do a comparison.

Doug, is it a regular vinyl record or is it the heavier version i.e. 180gm/200gm or special vinyl like virgin vinyl?

It is the 180gm version. I couldn't pass it up for the $28 they had it for on their Saturday special. The CD version is $19.99 today at BB IIRC. The box set with CD/LP would be nice, but I don't like paying for the booklets, etc. I've got many LP's and box sets that I've never even cracked open the booklets.

I wonder why it is not being listed as a 180gm LP in the ads and literature?:confused: Perhaps I've missed it.

Listening to the 180gm LP right now. There's a lot to like about the remastering. Not nearly as treble heavy as the original I have, but a little less dynamic also. Overall I think it is much more listenable.

Some pressings of the original were better than others. I have an original first Canadian Kinnney pressing which is popularly considered the best pressing and it sounds fantastic. I'd like to compare it to the new remaster.

Someone put a lot more care into the mastering for sides 3 and 4! There's a pretty distinct difference in the mastering style ...... or the source tapes they had to work with were different.

It doesn't really sound like it's compressed, just a pretty laid back mastering on sides 1 & 2. Sides 3 & 4 sound much more open and dynamic.

You hvae to remember the new release has previously unreleased tracks so perhaps that's why there is a difference. Having not looked at the running order maybe this is the first time the unreleased tracks have been mastered for official release.

    Just a thought.

I have the original CD release and it's sort of a benchmark for listening to different systems as it can be a tad treble heavy and bass shy on some systems. When I listen on my current rig it sounds fantastic, dynamic, more bass and none of the shrillness typical of this cd on some systems.

I might check out the remastered version eventually.

H9 - I have the remastered CD setting here. I haven't had a chance to compare it against the LP. I didn't have this on CD so I had it pre-ordered at BB. I hadn't planned to buy the vinyl version, but couldn't pass up the deal at Strictly Discs when I was there.

The new remastered version includes tracks from the same session that weren't released on the original Exile On Main Street.

I haven't investigated but I *think* all remastered new releases include the previously unreleased material. I could be wrong but that was part of the idea of releasing a new "updated" version of Exile................to remaster and add bonus tracks to entice Stones fans to buy it even though they already have it.

The reg cd version (new remaster) doesn't have the 10 extra tracks, the deluxe cd version (new remaster) has the 10 extra tracks recorded during the same sessions which have never before been avail commercially.

Whew...........glad we got that cleared up :p
