easy dude, he doesnt like cats. I used to hate cats too, now I own 4 of them. the wife, what can I say.

as far as the shelter, I understand your feelings, but let us not lump him into the category of torching cats on fire......cmon now.

Incidentally I saw a video of some russian guy catching a cat, puring lighter fluid on it and burning it alive.......I was in my "hate cats" phase and still would have loved to find the guy and curb stomp him. to do that to any animal means that person has ISSUES!! At that level of cruelty, it's not as far a strecth from doing that to a cat or dog then doing it to a human.....at least not morally in there warped minds.

I would never lump him into the same category as the person who torched the cat. He would fit nicely perhaps 1 notch up from the person that torched the cat, but no more.:rolleyes:

Either way, it shows a very extreme lack of compassion for a helpless animal. If you don't like 'em, leave 'em the heck alone. Don't send them off to their deaths. I just don't get some people.

Wow you really are going a bit overboard here aren't you?
He would fit nicely perhaps 1 notch up from the person that torched the cat, but no more.

That's just wrong! I don't particularly like cats myself. If I found a stray at my door, would take it in feed it, try to find the owner, then call the ASPCA. Does that make me "one notch up from the person that torched the cat?"
Either way, it shows a very extreme lack of compassion for a helpless animal.

REALLY? I don't think he showed a lack of compassion, he merely stated his dislike for cats.

I think you need to let your blood boiling stop and just let others express their likes and dislikes without labeling them the way you did.
If you don't like 'em, leave 'em the heck alone. Don't send them off to their deaths

Hmmm leave them alone? If I were to leave a stray or someone's pet cat out in the elements would't that constitute cruelty or leaving them to the chance of getting hit by a car, chewed up by some dog or racoon, maybe even starve to death?

First of all, why do you "hate" anything that does you no harm?:confused:

Secondly, the "worst" you do is catch them and give them to the shelter? You realize most shelters euthanize most of the animals they take in. Usually by injection or gas chamber, a very frightening way for the animal to die.:mad:

Please tell me you have found a good, true no kill shelter. And NOT the humane society - some are good but most are the worst.

    Chris

Okay, I'm not going to justify my hatred of cats, as I realize it's a completely irrational response.

However, living in my neighborhood, I have had to call the police numerous times on kids doing the same kind of **** that happened to this poor critter. Last cat I turned in had one of its eyes hanging out and was all cut up from the neighborhood sociopaths. I don't go around chasing healthy animals for the sake of spite.

The one before that, some kids had beaten to within an inch of it's life with a board when I got home from work.

I can understand your opinion, given that I reread my previous post, and I didn't really bother to explain that fully.

Does my position make a bit more sense now?

Same, now when there are bugs in the house (not often) I will try to get them on a piece of paper and bring them outside.

I thought I was the only one. Everyone thinks I'm crazy. I also remember spending a good part of my childhood swimming, camping out in the shallow end and dishing out bugs to the concrete. My Mom felt it should be brought to my attention that the chlorine was going to kill them anyway. Still didn't deter me from my quest.

Now... I think I need to take a warm bubble bath and listen to some Enya. Please flame away.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Honestly, the main thing stopping me from kicking the crap out of those kids is the litigious (is that the right word) nature of the local white trash. I can't imagine doing any time over that, but I promised certain loved ones that I wouldn't do any more stupid stuff after the one time I went to jail, so...

It's a great idea, but there's an enormous woman across the street from me who sits outside all day and just watches that stuff go down. She mostly just smiles at the kids and scowls at me, so...

J Allen - what you posted made sense. Just try and find a good no kill shelter OK? One where the animal will get some help, not just put down.

I work in the "no kill" movement and am probably overly sensitized to some of the stuff I have seen at some "shelters." Some are nothing more than slaughter houses. Very sad what you see there.

I also work at a local shelter and some of the animals we have brought in turned out be great animals. Dogs and cats with one eye, no ears, tails bit or hacked off, you get the idea.

Sorry I got so carried away.

Message to everyone - please think it through when you take any animal to a shelter. Make sure you know a little about the place.

    Peace - Chris ;);)

Gotch Chris. Now your posts make sense to me. Since you are in the "no kill" movement, perhaps you could post up some links where we could find such places or what to look for.

Thank you for the interest. Start here with the No Kill Advocacy Center:

    http://www.nokilladvocacycenter.org/

The center was the brain child of Nathan Winograd. Really a great guy. I had the extreme please to meet him at a conference last year.

    Here's a little about Nathan:

    http://www.nathanwinograd.com/

If you make a donation to the center, they will send you this book, written by Nathan:

    http://www.amazon.com/Redemption-Myth-Overpopulation-Revolution-America/dp/0979074312/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1273875294&sr=8-2-spell

Or you can just buy the book on Amazon and a portion of the proceeds go to the center.

The book is an easy read, not gory, very positive, and will forever change your view of animal shelters and the so-called animal over population problem.

I'll take a look at it...

Any idea what this guy's stance on breed-specific legislation is? The PETA people make me sick when they simultaneously condemn me for eating meat and want to kill half the dogs in the country for being 'bully' breeds.

This guy isn't one of those bozos, is he? I didn't see any PETA logos on the website, so far so good :)

I can't believe people do this. I'm way opposite the global warming save the earth peta types, but can't tolerate this type of illogical abuse.

My "hatred" of cats has involved at least a 5 $1,000 trips to the local 24-hr. pet emergency hospital to "Please save Butterball, Daddy", and at least $1,000 a year for food, cat litter and incidentals spread over the past 30 years of supporting the cats my wife and children drag home.

The two at home I currently "hate" I secretly pet and brush for at least 15 minutes a day when everyone else is at school or work so my cover isn't blown :)

No - Nathan's a great guy, not one of these PETA or extreme animal rights people. He's just a good guy and makes a lot of sense. Fact is he's actually anti-PETA

He is against breed specific laws, etc. Read here:

Well, welcome to the Club, brother ! :)
$6 grand in lawyer's fees, but .... uhm .... this friend of mine thought it was worth it. :o

The neighborhood punk that thought it was cute to sit in his driveway and do stuff like smash a big box turtle with a hammer .... terrorize a local young girl who was chubby calling her 'hippo", .... call a kid's friends ethnic slurs, the whole nine yards.

Yeah, he went a step too far, and the issued was addressed by my friend.
No more problem. At least around here.

He's definitely a candidate for serial killer and we're sure his picture will show up in the post office some day.

BTW, I used to hate cats, too (as measured on the "How Much Do You Like Dogs" scale), but .... they kind of grow on you. More of a possession, actually, of probably a satanic nature, but ..... they kind of grow on you. :)
