speaker wire review, coming soon
Ok i bought some monster 14-4 bulk bi-wire for my front stage, mains and center from Mantis to replace my generic 6 year old wire i had, After i finish watching my movie in a few i will post somewhat of a review, I have never done a review so bare with me, I was alittle skeptical of wire making any difference what so ever!! Alittle teaser after a whole afternoon of listening, I have noticed a difference, details coming soon.. be back shortly

I can't believe this wire, is somthing wrong, my highs are low my lows are high, the woofers are flapping, the tweeters are popping, sheesh what is wrong???
Just kidding!!! Gotcha
I am/was very reluctant to think wire could make a difference, I received my Monster 14-4 wire from Dan this morning, already spliced back and everything, ready to hook up. I don't have my monster quick locks yet so its all bare wire, i bi-wired my center first then my front mains Ie: Rti70's.. I listen to some radio stuff first, then turned to some cd's.. Put in Rush chronicles.. i have the 2 cd set, My fav and know what it sounds like usually.. Also for reference i turned the sub off and used direct mode for no bass/treble settings to encourage my thoughts.. I am new to the review field so bare with me,
First thing i noticed was better bass, i usually have the set the bas to +4 or better when i run no sub to achieve the bass i like. this time in stereo i ran it flat 0 and with direct with great sounding bass.. first change, I like it.
Ok my Integra seems to make the mains a bit harsh on high volume and bright to the poiny where you can't listen for long on some music, although not the case in HT at all, Well it's hard for me to admit or believe but i think it toned down the harshness, Ok did i just say that?? I might just want to believe the wire made a difference, But the real test!!! MY wife who proclaims the highs are "To" high and tinny..
so tonight after dinner, i looked through her type cd's and found lionel richie, the alblum with all his classics.. i turn it up where she usually can't stand it, ask her to come listen while i take a shower.. tell her their is no sub on, but listen and let me know when i get back..
She first says, i can already tell a difference.. i was like great!!I thought so to.
So after the shower, she says yup this sounds much better and its no so harsh to listen to loud.. I said i know i know, that's what i thought also.. We both thought the bass was much better and clean, at flat settings.. so after that we watched national security DVD with martin lawrence, hence the late review.. It had some good action in parts and sounded great as well.. hard for me to tell in movies a difference becuase it sounds good before in HT..
conclusion, This either in my head or my speakers made a difference, I had it higher in volume then usual and it sounded clean and clear and crisp and didn't annoy me after 5 minutes at higher volumes..
Dan mentioned to me to listen and see if it makes a difference, i said i will let ya know, he assured me i would notice, and i did.. Now i listened all day almost after i hooked the new wire up and am now convinced.. this wasn't after a few songs.. but hours of litening.. I am happy with the results.. now for the new RTi38's soon and a pb1 sv sub.. later on
Thanks again for the help and encouragementMY HT RIG:

Count me in - better wire sounds better - period. The differences ARE subtle, but they are most certainly there.

subtle...........what is subtle???
Small gains add up to large ones down the road.I agree with this.Wire is like fine tuning after the major overhaul.Tweaking if you will.Dan

Subtle, or dramatic, It just sounds overall better, I don't know where all the terms come from, But sounds better works for me.. I am a believer now i guess, I mean this just opens me up to better wires/cables later on, now i know it can make a difference..MY HT RIG:

Subtle is changes in detail, soundstage solidity and depth, attack and decay dynamics - stuff you have to have a good ear, a good recording, and your eyes closed to really appreciate.
Not subtle is upgrading from the RM6600 & PSW202 to the RTi70, CSi40, FXi50, and an SVS 20-39PCi.
Make no mistake, both the M1.4 and the 14-4 sound better than the Lowe's stuff they replaced. But it's not like the Lowe's stuff was disgusting and the Monster stuff made my system sound completely different.
It's more like the view of the backyard after you wash your picture windows in the spring - there's more detail, more focus, more color - the view is the same, but the devil is in the details and it just makes you say "ahhh, now THAT'S more like it"!
