I am looking to get a green laptop for my gf. The reason it has to be green is it is her favorite color "long story". Other than low quality dell is there any other company that produces green laptops?

Have to disagree with the low quality Dell statement. My wife has had two Dell laptops with zero issues with them. An Inspiron 6000 that she gave to her sister and her current Studio 15, which is green by the way:)

So what problems are you guys seeing with them? Are they the cheap line or are they high-end models?

I used a Dell at work for 5 years and it held up very well. I now have an HP for work and I have had the fan, motherboard (twice) and docking station replaced in 2 years.

    Now owned by dell sadly.

We have seen just all around poorly build and made machines. Different things have failed even at a teachers job "detective" they fail a lot.

If I have to I will go with dell but not without getting my arm twisted first.

Buy an Apple, and then grow some Irish moss on it ... the only downside is that you'll have to spray it with moisture every day.

I have a HP and the Dell XPS, I like it. It's very fast and performs well out in the field. I've had it in harsh field enviroments and it has not let me down.

It's not green but it is a bad machine

Alienware.... For a while before Dell bought them, they were the same machine that Gateway and eMachines were putting out at a fraction of Alienware's price.

If you want a hot boutique laptop get a Sager or get a Ferrari (red or black only)

Or an Asus Lambo- also, comes only in yellow

    Agreed on the Sony.
Love the Krylon idea Jstas !

I would also go with the new processor I3, I5 or I7, depending upon her usage and your wallet.

I have an old Vaio ( 2005 ) that still outperforms my new Acer ( 2009 ), I will never go AMD again.
    Intel only.
That said, I don't think Sony has any AMD's that I know of.

When I need another TV, PC or Laptop, a Sony it will be.

I used to be a TV repairman, with three shops, and I saw the least amount of TV's in the Sony lineup.

Really, you're going to blame that poor performance on the AMD chip instead of the fact that it's an Acer????

Too, it is bottom rung, and I didn't realize at the time that it was a bottom rung as it had an impressive spec sheet. I believe it to be a sum of it's components to not match or perform correctly. So, right you are, better to blame the fact that it is an Acer.
I still will go back to Sony though next time.
Really, it was my bad for limiting the spending budget.
After throwing a blue ray burner, 4 more gb ram, an OS and office in it, I am stuck with using it, and must accept it, sigh.
    Hopefully this helps others.

Agreed.. I think its more the ACER than the AMD, I've been using AMD chips for years and have no complaints.

What happened to no brand bashing allowed? It appears to me from multiple threads that you have posted in that you seem to hate Dell the brand and it wouldndt matter if Acer, HP, IBM or whoever had the identical parts in their machines the Dells would suck as far as your concerned.

All companies have had winners and losers in their lineups but seriously stop and think for a minute about what you are saying, forget what your teachers have told you and think for yourself. If Dell was really that bad how are they still in business years after they started? And why do you see the majority of posters in this thread are saying they love their Dells? If the problems you say that you and your teachers are having were widespread then surely more of us would be agreeing with you and there would be widespread complaints all over the web.

I am typing this on a Dell that I bought new in 2004 which makes 6 years of absolutley trouble free service. I have never had a single virus or hiccup of any kind it runs as fast or faster than it did in 2004 and shows no sign of stopping any time soon, which truthfully I cant say the same for my Gateway or Compaq computers. Of course maybe I like the majority of posters here have just been lucky but I doubt it.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

Gotta love it when the only requirement is that it be green (of course, I first took this to mean "environmentally responsible" or some crap like that).

My guess is, take most of the major consumer brands apart and they're essentially the same on the inside. I'm not even sure what makes a Dell a Dell, or an HP an HP, other than the logo on the front.
