hey i just bought norton security suite 2010 and i have a FREE extra license for anyone that needs it (i only have two computers). Please who ever wants it make sure you really need it. I will take everyone's names and put them in a hat this evening 9:00 so let me know by then. I will have the results shortly after and then i will send the winner the key. You will have to download the trial and just use the key i will give you. O and no one use this key for anything illegal PLEASE since it is on me. Not sure if someone can do that but i just want to make sure. Anyway good luck and hope all is well.

No need for it. I used AVG Free for a while, and Avira (both were fine), but now I just use Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE, which I heard about from the thread linked below), and a firewall.

TBH, I wouldn't ever use anybody else's "free" family user license anyway.

Jayson, I don't want to seem sanctimonious, or **** on your thread generosity, but I personally think that family licenses are a wonderful idea (we have four non-corporate laptops at home), and I don't want to abuse the privilege because I don't want them to go away. It's like scamming your insurance: you pay in the long run, and I just don't want the bad karma either.

I may be naive, or stupid, or both ... but that's just the way it is. In any case, one of the laptops runs Xubuntu, and the other three run M.S.E., which has a very small footprint, so there's no need to "cheat" anyway.

    Carry on!

its not cheating i paid for them, but i did not think i would get negative comments for a free product. I guess the economy must at its peak for people putting down something for free. If people dont want it DONT POST. This is just like when i gave away a free draper 110 grayhawk for free. I got responses like "that screen sucks" and no one wanted it. i think giving away a product i paid for is not bad karma. If i buy a twix and give my friend the other half am i cheating that company??? No i already paid for it. Just so people know i paid (i had to save for) for norton 70.00 dollars and i am just trying to be nice and give to someone who does not have money for a program. Whatever i think people should be nice when someone is offering something for free and be GRATEFUL people still care.

You couldn't pay me to put it on my computer. Amongst other things I'm a computer tech, and I've seen Norton products slow a good computer to a crawl. To almost every client I strongly recommend three great free products: AVG Free edition, Ad-aware Free, and Anti-malware by Malwarebytes. These three free programs have kept my computer free from virus or bog for a long time with one recent exception that none of the anti-virus programs caught.

I think what you are doing is a cool gesture but I hope who gets it has lots of computing power, otherwise it will bog a weak system right down.

Jayson, calm down, would you?! I remained diplomatic in my first post, but since you asked "why?" in response to that, I answered your question, nothing more. You should have known the answer if you read the license agreement, so don't get upset.

    No further comment.

Why should i calm down all i tried to do is give something away to someone and all i hear is that product sucks or i am cheating that company, and your right before i give something away i should call a lawyer and read my receipt in full. I looked at other KARMA ads and no one is bashing their generosity. That is all i have to say about that and no one should feel bad for giving. I will be nice and wait until 9 and then deleting this account because i choose not be be in Place that bashes gift giving.

No problem and im sorry for making a huge deal but i am almost getting laid off again from work and i am a little on edge. My industry is dying and i am scrambling to keep it alive. I do not think people should bash gifts, but i should not be rude either I am sorry to all i have offended. In an hour i will randomly pick a name (which is only two) and i hope Norton will work for you cuz it has caught a lot of things for me.

Now that is interesting. I may have to re-think my view on Norton. The benchmarks give it a very high report card. Thanks Lorthos.

I know i never used norton before this but i does not slow my system down one bit. i have tried them all and this version by far slows it down the least. IMO. The old versions of norton were the worst but now the program file is tiny and i can not even tell its running. One good thing they did was turn off any background processes off while you are using it (AKA updating scanning etc). Anyway i love and thats why i gave away one. cheers
