So, about a month ago I took my BDP-S1 in for repair due to it freezing up while watching a movie. I had given the unit to my dad to introduce him to the BD world and from day one he didn't care for the slowness of the unit or the lack of not being able to play cd's with it. Well, about a month ago he purchased a new Panny BD player and gave the S1 back to me so I decided to have it sent off for repair. Well this morning I got a phone call from BB telling me that they couldn't fix the unit (or just didn't want to mess with it is what I think) and that they wanted to replace the unit with a comparable. I just assumed I was gonna get a crappy unit and low and behold they gave me a brand new BDP-S1000ES. I must say so far I'm really impressed with this unit. Unit is on the upstairs rig and is replacing the Panny DMP-BD30 and the Sony boots up MUCH faster than the Panny. The picture quality is what you would expect from any Sony product, absolutely amazing. The one key feature I found I like the most is the built-in wireless connection. Once I linked up to my wireless network I told it to do the firmware update and it was downloaded and installed with no problems. The unit also came with a 4GB flash drive that gets plugged into the back of the unit which is used for the Bonusview/BD-Live content which I haven't really tried yet. Well, as I have more time with the unit I'll be sure to post more thoughts on the unit but as of now, completely satisfied with the free exchange.

looks like you got a deal there. curious, does it handle netflix download? I'm thinking about a new BD so my kids can do the netflix movies. Think I've seen that player recently for ~$200 on special at vanns or something. think it has the 5yr warranty. it looks well built.
    Thanks!

Wow! that's the first time I've heard of a warranty company actually exchanging for a brand new unit of a newer model number. Sounds like you got a great deal. Now only if the warranty company had exchanged my Denon 3910 for the modern Blu Ray equivalent Denon when I had it in the shop recently. :p Enjoy the new unit!

Does it have the SACD playback?

I tried to look it up on the Sony but the site is slow.

That's a negative, no SACD playback which is fine with me due to I only play movies through the unit.
