6 channel Yamaha receiver with no sound for center

Alright geniuses here's the scoop. I recently moved into a new place and bought a cheap yamaha 6 channel receiver off of c-list to run a pair of owm3's and a cs1 center channel that's been sitting around for quite some time. The main purpose of this setup is for radio and rca-ipod listening. The tuner works great and I understand that the receiver only works in stereo mode when listening to the tuner. However, the front end claims that when you are in DVD or TV mode you can use the 6 channels. These two work great with the rca cables to the ipod however I get nothing from the center. When I push the button again to set it into the 6 channel mode I get next to nothing out of any speaker. When I turn it to full volume I still hear it in stereo mode but only very very quietly.

I believe it is a yamaha 493 and it is quite old but seems to function perfectly. If anyone has this receiver or something similar and can point out where I'm going wrong that would be fantastic. Otherwise if it's a no-go on getting the 3 speakers to work at once the cs1 will be up for sale. (pm me if interested)

Thanks for the help.

I'd register at the Yamaha website and download the PDF operating manual... for starters.

I boought an RX-V870 off of craigslist a couple of years ago and thought i had nothing from the center or the rear speakers - until i realized there was a volume toggle button for the center and the rear channels -- and viola -- as soon as i added volume i had volume.

I have a yamaha vx463 and there is alot of somewhat hard to axcess settings that will adjust the volume of the speakers. what I would do is look for the initialize all button. That will reset everything to factory. then go and make sure its set to have a center and that the volume trims are set correctly

Well, I appreciate the help and of course solved the problem. Based on me being apparently blind I failed to notice that this receiver is meant to allow 2 center channels (new to me). Anyways, when you don't wire 2 of them you need to use the opposite + and - rather than the ones right next to each other. Plugged it in this way and bingo. Thanks for the suggestions but I suppose next time I will visit the eye doctor before bugging you guys.
