I also heard a trader placing a large sell order for Proctor and Gamble accidentally hit B to denote "billion" shares, where he intended to hit M to denote million(s)....which also contributed to the huge drop. Analysts are speculating the large unintended sell-out of this historically solid - company threw everyone into a panic.

As far a Greece goes, I love Gyros, so we should bail them out also.

Yup once that B was hit it set off the auto buy/sell systems and the bottom dropped out solely due to a screwup and these bs automated buy/sell programs...small guy lost..h funds made out like bandits once again..

The Greek women are the most desirable looking things in the world, and the Cretan women are at the top of THAT heap.

Romanian women aren't too shabby looking...my fiance is Romanian lol:p

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

I fail to see why this thread is a problem, nor is it polarizing.

    More pie, please.

    Pie indeed!

Geez are we now going to dissect every thread in the Clubhouse? Even if it is polarizing, we've proved that the discussions can remain civil and informative. Politics aside, which it seems lots of folks are labeling non-political threads, there has been a big change in the forum's collective on discussing issues without resorting to getting down and dirty.

    Just MHO!

I love Greek women and whole heartedly agree! My wife has a Greek look to her and I find her to be more and more beautiful and desirable each day.

I guess I should stay out of this as my wife is not Greek.....but.....I do believe George is one of us?

Frankly, Greece is being used as a scapegoat for a situation that is far greater and probably worse than the EU is telling us?

    Think 'cascade' effect...not cascade crossover!

I've heard the same thing, but something just doesn't sit right with that explanation.

DISCLAIMER: I've mentioned this before, but in matters financial, I'm a complete idiot. In fact, if rounded off to the LCD, you may refer to me as "Moron".

I understand that all the big brokerage houses/traders use computers to manage the massive amounts of stocks/bonds/derivatives they handle.
I understand that timely/precise/quick actions when they buy/sell/punt/pass helps them to increase their profits for themselves and the people they represent so a lot of these transactions are automated.

But ..... with the bodacious amounts of money they're dealing with, I can't imagine that a simple "Ooops, I hit 'B' instead of 'M' " keyboard mistake could slip through, trigger a domino effect, and cause a 1000 point drop in the DOW.

Assuming the Big Guys don't get their trading software out of the "Freeware" and/or "Shareware" download section of ZDNET, how the heck does this type of error slip through ?
I assume it's possible to skillfully maneuver through a very tight maze in any trading program to cause havoc, but a simple "Ooops !" ? I just can't see that happening.

It just might be my paranoia showing, but ...... doesn't a stealth cyber attack seem more likely ?

We have a Greek owned shop down the road from us, they cut the meat for the gyros right off the spit and pack the pita with it and their Tsatsiki Sauce is the best I've ever tasted. We always ask for extra sauce. They speak English but you gotta be on your toes.

I hear you. I went to school at a small college town, about 80 miles from Boston. One of the malls around there had this greek, mom and pop take away joint. The hot meat off the split, freshly baked and toasted pita and chilled homemade tsatsiki. Have tried a lot of gyros over the last 23 years, but nothings ever come close. The taste is embedded in my mind :)

Well I gotta tell ya, next to the shop that I mentioned above, some of the greatest gyros I've ever eaten were on the Wildwood NJ boardwalk. Man they make them right in front of you, slice the meat whatever thickness you desire, toast the homemade pits on the grill and load it up. However, they sure taste great for next few hours afterwards as they stick with you and repeat on you like crazy!:D

My wife, son and I are addicted to gyros.
