PSW 202 Buzzing Sounds

I own a PSW 202 Active Subwoofer and I usually use it with my home theatre to watch tv. I've used it for almost 3 years now and tonight, it started making intermittent buzzing noises, usually at certain frequencies. It sounds almost like a blown speaker but I inspected the cone in the front and did not find any rips or damage. What is the cause of this and how do I fix it? Thanks!

Sounds like it probably is your driver. Looking at the front of the cone you wouldn't be able to tell if the spider (the corrugated disk at the base of the cone) has separated from the metal basket. If you remove the driver from the box (unplug first ) and light ly lift the cone from underneath you will likely see the spider rise up as well. Normally this piece is glued down and will not move.Sounds good to me...

After my afternoon beverage and some light contemplation I begin to think your trouble could alternatively be some other loose part in/on the cabinet. especially if it only buzzes at certain frequencies.
If you havent already, search the forum for a similar problem.
There are a lot more knowledgeable people than me out here and almost all the questions I have had where thoroughly addressed by earlier threads.Sounds good to me... -
UPDATE: Thanks for the feedback! Shortly after the above issue, one night while I was watching TV, my subwoofer made a high-pitched whining noise and then stopped working. When I went to investigate, it smelled like an electrical burning odour and the power LED was not on. Did the subwoofer's amp blow and what are my options? My guess is that it's out of warranty already? I'm apprehensive of purchasing another similar Polk Audio subwoofer if it blew so fast and I don't crank it loud either.

It sounds like the power supply unit gave up the ghost. If you are friendly with a local T.V repair shop I would take it in and ask if they would check out the caps and if bad replace them. It could also be the main amp IC I had a sub do the same thing and the stk packs cost me $18 and I was back on the road.Absolute corruption empowers absolutely.

@Phasewolf, thanks for the reply! Sorry, I'm a newbie... so it sounds like either the power supply or the on-board amp is hooped, right? What exactly are caps, main amp IC, and stk packs? I can find some TV repair places, unfortunately, I'm not friendly with any of them! Thanks again for all your help!!

My understanding of caps are capacitor, and in the case of the subwoofer, they are the can type and can easily be replace. Not very hard if you know how to solder.

I had a polk subwoofer model

Sorry about that. I had a polk audio subwoofer model 6000BD that when plugged in it made a loud humming noise. I took it apart and noticed that there were two can capacitors that were bad. I replaced them both being care to put the new one with the polarity in the same way the bad one were in, however after replacing them I still get the load humming. I took of the speaker from my good Subwoofer and connected the speaker from the RM6000BD bad subwoofer and the speaker works perfectly. With that being said I know that it is not the speaker. So, does anyone here know why I am getting the loud humming but not sound other then the humming.
