Will my receiver work with the RTi10s?
I have to admit to knowing very little about audio systems. I currently have a Sony STR-DH810 receiver and I am wondering if it will work ok with the RTi10s? I am not expecting incredible sound quality or bass, but I am worried about damaging the speakers by not having enough power and if I will need an amp. If I should get an amp I am open to low priced suggestions.
Also, I have never had speakers with spikes like the RTi10s have, should I be concerned about destroying the carpet (I rent)?
Thank you for any advice you can provide.

1)-Don't crank on it hard and you should be OK!
2)-As long as you don't move them around alot, spikes won't destroy carpet. The spikes will help couple them to the floor, so your low end will be a bit better. Placement is your key.Onkyo TX-SR705 AVR

I appreciate the information. Also, I am not sure if it is important, but for the moment I would only be running the two RTi10s, no other speakers.

1) Calibrate it properly when you first set it up,
2) Figure out where the volume knob limits are (with nothing playing, so you are not sending sound to the speakers at the time),
3) Stay away from the maximum setting.
Most receivers have a dB rated scale, which is -xxdB up to 0dB, and then beyond. Just don't use anything beyond 0dB once it's calibrated. You may even find you prefer not to go beyond something like the -10dB setting, or lower still.
Common sense should go a long way: pushing the receiver too hard with those large speakers could damage your tweeters (the small domed drivers on top), but it will sound far too loud well before then IMO.Alea jacta est! -

Ok, thanks for all the input. Sounds like I should be fine, as I can't really crank the sound level anyways due to living in an apartment.

815 guy? Does 815 happen to be your area code? Just wondering, cuz that's my area code. Always nice to know other locals that are crazy about audio.;)
You'll be fine driving the 10's with your receiver. It won't drive them to their full potential, but it'll do just fine. The 10's are 8 ohms nominal, and fairly efficient, so they're pretty easy to drive. The nirvana inducer-

Regarding the spikes, you don't have to use them at all, if you don't want. I have A5's, and I haven't ever screwed them on. I was also worried about floor damage. (I have carpet).Pioneer 1018

We have carpet and I can tell you they only leave a little dent in the carpet which will dissapear. -
