Thiel vs. Polk SDA

The other day, I went to audition a set of Thiel CS6's. These are big speakers that weigh 187 LBs each and have just two active drivers (one of which is a tweet/mid -combo). They are passively radiated. The Thiel CS6's list for about $9K/pair and these were used selling at $3.5K.
Anyway, I wasn't impressed. I've been listening to my classic Polk's: CRS+ & 3.1TL for quite a while. I thought the expensive Thiels would blow-away the Polks and they really didn't.
Yes, the bass was a little tighter on the Thiels. Not much, but a little. The High's were maybe a tad crisper. Thats all though.
But, the imaging on the Polk SDA's was better than the Thiels (fuller sound).
Also, the Polk's sounded SUPERIOR to the Thiels on acoustic guitar tracks (Eric Clapton, etc).
Polk's aren't everything.... but they do some things very well.
Likewise, Thiels aren't everything either - I learned.

Speakers are very personal,
cost doesn't mean better.Quality does but you have to like the sound.

My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
