OK, this thread and the one that fostered it are both lame.

    Get over it already.

Tom, you pulled a boner. Whether anyone thought it was funny or not, it obviously didn't go over well. Suck it up, learn from the experience and move on. Furthering the strife over something so stupid serves no good at all. Give it up.

Everyone else, move along, there's nothing to see here ya looky-loos.

I actually thought the joke was quite funny. This coming from the guy who posted the thread about the philly fans getting barfed on was also funny. In fact, that thread also got closed after some members on here had choice names for me. However, with that, I don't hold a grudge. I'm not mad or ashamed. I'm certainly not leaving the forum over a bit of name calling. I enjoy what I learn here as well as the people involved. One must get past the idea that little johnny called him a name online or sally didn't agree with a post.

I think if the worst thing that happened to you in the last month is having a thread closed down then you certainly have a good life going on.

Best of luck on this quest to find what you are looking for with this thread,
    Nick

If you're looking for the bad guy, your search is over. The post was brought to my attantion and I supported closing the thread. Stop beating up the mods!

I have guests here at the office that I can't ignore but tonight I will explain why I thought the thread was misplaced.

    I don't mind helping out...

OMG, kid! Do you ever stop with the feeble attempts at power grabs? Your post is totally inappropriate. If they wanted you to be a moderator they would have approached you months ago. Incessantly begging to be one is a surefire way to never be a moderator.

One of my dreams in life is to work for a company like Polk Audio, as an engineer / crossover designer / speaker designer. I have always had this interest since I was very little and that's why I would like to get closer to the folks over at Polk.

You supported closing down a Karma thread even after it was known that it was an April fool's hoax? Yeah, I'd like to hear your reasoning on that because I'm thoroughly confused as to why.

    It cost nobody any money.
It was just an ordinary April Fools day hoax. One of thousands that day.
Hoaxes are supposed to be flat out lies, specifically made to make folks look like fools.
It created no physical harm to anybody.
    It threatened nobody.

I saw that you were on the thread 30 minutes before it got shut down so I thought all was well, which was the case all along. Why was the last two posts written to make me look like the bad guy? I sincerely hope that you did not support that as well.

Perhaps you an Al should do this via e-mail, PM or a phone call. I, for the life of me, can't figure out why you are so wrapped around the axel on this Tom. Is this *really* the battle you choose to fight?

Let it go or work your frustrations out behind the scenes. No one cares about this but you.

You know, at this point, this whole thing has become old, tired and exhausting. You had a month to come up with a reason to justify your stupidity in a lame attempt at humor at what you call an April Fool's joke. The joke backfired and as a result you suddenly scrambled to offer up karma to make amends. And then cam up with some lame a$$ excuse explanation that you wanted to bring the insurance topic up in a creative way that spurned dialogue. That's my take on it. Hindsight is 20/20 and it is beyond me why you can't let this go - you are begging the mods to take action while you are calling them out. Let it go and move on. It's been said a thousand times. You're a contributing member of this forum, but you don't have a dog in this fight. Are you mad because you feel you were censored? Big deal - it's Polk's forum. Toe the line and eventually we all get comfortable enough to step over it. You did and got called out.

Nobody is begging you to stay, nobody is asking you to leave. The only thing we're asking is to drop this and stop your rant. Nothing more and nothing less. There I said it...........

You obviously have no clue. You are entitled to your opinion, even though it is dead wrong, I can still appreciate that you have an opinion.

If it's getting old, simply do not look at this thread. End of story. I have more in my rig than I do my truck. This was way more than just vaguely important to me. I had already made posts about insuring my rig two years ago on 4 different forums. Nobody wants to talk about that stuff. I had figured out a way to get a high profile thread going to where I could help folks learn about their rig being insured and hopefully learn how to get mine insured after Serendepity asked a question about security on another thread the day before.

Look at the title of this thread. This is what I would like to know. I'm not arguing, I'm not threatening, I am inquiring. If you are not interested in this, then move on.

    I am.

I have 2 thoughts on this:
1.) If you posted on 4 forums and it has been posted numerous times to discuss here and you got no bites, was the most effective way to discuss it to stir up a hornt's nest of controversy and then say "Oh by the way, let's discuss insurance." Hardly.......

2.) You are respected enough on this forum that people listen. All you had to do was post a thread about it and I could guarantee you that you would have had many hits and replies just because of your standing here.

Tom, I was in no way trying to beat you up or deride you. If all you want is an answer, why make it so public and so challenging? Why not just handle things behind the scenes?

I think because you want to make it public.........a call out of sorts. If your *sole* intention was as innocent as just wanting to know why, there was a much less high profile way to handle it.

That's all I have to say, because I simply do not understand why you chose to handle the matter in this way.

Good luck and I hope you get a satisfactory answer and continue to be a part of Club Polk.

When we had the "big blow up" with KAB a while back, I thought it was decided more moderation would take place (i.e. PM warnings to people being offensive or otherwise breaking the rules).

Instead, what seems to be happening is threads are getting shut down at the whim of the mods with no apparent rules being broken, no PM's sent and no explanation as to why the thread was shut down other than an occasional "Easy does it, calm down, take a deep breath."

I said "seems" because I don't really know, but has ANYONE received a PM warning from the mods since the new rules? Treitz?

Christ, this thread is going nowhere fast. That thread was shut down because someone thought it inappropriate -- end of story. What's the big deal anyhow? The mods (or higher up) can shut down a thread without explanation and without a PM first if they are so inclined.

Tom, you seem to think that just because it's April Fool's day it gives you the right to pull whatever "hoax" you want without repercussions -- life doesn't work that way, sorry. You gambled with a lot of your forum friends' feelings, and it didn't go over so well.

Whatever, people will get over it. But I don't quite understand this whole "entitlement" attitude that just because it was April 1 it gives you the right to do whatever you want and then not take personal responsibility for it.

Move on, don't move on, your choice obviously. But I for one had completely forgotten about the whole thing until today when it was rehashed in this thread.

Many of us are guilty of "one-up-manship" here. Many of us have big ego's and can get carried away.
The situation turns circular. More deletion of posts and threads will send a strong message about their acceptability.

I think that when major differences occur, using private messages are a better idea than using a public board. Being positive has positive consequences and the converse is true too.

I'm know longer sure what this post is about. Best I can figure is the following:
    1. Tom is still stewing over having his April Fool's post terminated.
    2. Remember the good ole days.
    3. The moderators are mean people.

If I missed any thing let me know. I'll take these one at a time.

    1. When I saw Tom's post, I thought 'how sad for him' then 'there must be something we can do to help.' If that's what you intended Tom then congratulatrions. Gullible me.

Over the years, we have had members with tragic stories of real loss and pain. And I'm proud that Club Polk members have come to the aid of those in need.

I felt that Tom's post was too close to the nerve. Like crying wolf. Making us all a little more cynical. Numb.

There were no rules broken. We didn't know his grand plan and we made a judgement call that CP were better without the 'joke.'

    2. I remember the good ole days of Club Polk too. But just like in the rest of society, civility became optional. I am frankly amazed at the way you treat each other. Do you treat the people around you like this? Is this some sort of road rage? Do you really feel better signing off after having fought it out over the keyboard? Honest to god, I don't get it. You are supposedly here because you love audio and have some allegance to Polk Audio (for which I am ever grateful). But a number of you behave like the Hatfields and the McCoys. Do you want me to open up a second Club Polk so you can choose sides and hang out in different places venting your rage at the other CP? It won't work, ask any southern baptist.

For years and years, we let the forum self police. Only when you proved unable to tolerate each other, did we institute moderators and rules.

    3. Name a moderator that you won't hate in 30 days. You'd run Gandi out of town on a rail. There are three moderators plus Patrick: Ken, Mark and Russ. Ken has had over 15 years of experience dealing with angry people and sticky situations, so CP is a piece of cake. Russ and Mark have come from your midst. They care about audio; they care about Polk Audio; they care about Club Polk. I did not recruit them. They volunteered. They're doing the best they know how. But it's important to remember that they would be doing nothing if you practiced civil discourse. Also you should know that any judgement calls are discussed by the group and not subject to rash acts by one moderator.

Tom, I don't know why it was important to make this disagreement public but it was your call. Just try to have a good day and spread a little good. There was nothing personal and no harm meant. If you can be happier elsewhere, all the best.

    Al
