If you are too lazy to look.....here you go.

Welcome to Club Polk - Forum Rules
You are here because of your interest in audio and Polk speakers. We would like to welcome you to our online community. These forums are dedicated to you.

Here are some rules to insure that our forums remain interesting, educational, and fun:

Forum Rules
VERY IMPORTANT...

If you have a problem with another member's comments in a posted thread, DO NOT respond with any further comments that will aggravate the situation. Members have two options of recourse....

1. Email the moderators, directing them to the individual and thread that the problem occurs in.
2. Resolve the problem between both of you via PERSONAL email.

Reacting to a hostile post with more hostility puts YOU in jeopardy, and risks your account from being deleted. To be objective and fair about situations where forum members are attacking each other, BOTH members' accounts will be removed from our forum (and no, we don't care who started it).

Polk's Warning System...
The warning system is in place to ensure that the peace is kept. The offenses are as follows:

1st Offense: A private warning sent via PM
2st Offense: A public warning issued and the closing of the thread
3nd Offense: A 7 Day suspension from posting privileges
4th Offense: A 30 Day suspension from posting privileges
5th Offense: A LIFETIME BAN

The warnings have a one year shelf life. They will expire 1 year from the date of the initial warning.

*Polk Moderators can decide to skip the minor warnings and go directly to the lifetime ban based on severity of the offense.

1) Stick to the topic of the forum. This way information is easily categorized to make it easy for new members to access. Threads or posts that do not contain relevant information will be removed.

2) Trolling - members who make a conscious effort to inflame or irritate others will be subject to warnings and/or bans.

3) The discussion of politics and religion is irrelevant to good audio and is, therefore, not allowed on this forum.

4) Pornography and violent images are not allowed on this forum. This includes posts about weapons or explosives. Duh.

5) No baiting or fighting. Personal attacks, trouble making, inappropriate language, or any threatening or offensive behavior will not be tolerated.

6) No spam. Any member soliciting spam will be warned and/or banned

7) Do not brand bash. We're all in this together. Discuss what you like and dislike. But don't bash someone or something because you don't like it.

8) Be respectful of new members. If it was only you and me on this forum, we'd have no fun and the whole industry would collapse. The truth is that the world needs people like us to show them the way to great audio. Welcome the newbies. For they will encourage the next generation of audiophiles. You don’t want to be the last audiophile, do you?

9) Forum rules & guidelines are not up for debate. This is not a democracy, but rather a private forum owned by Polk Audio. Anyone openly debating the rules we have set in place will be removed.
[
/B]

So, what rule did I break? Why did the mods close down my thread? I really would like to know.

I haven't been on since nor do I care to until I hear an answer to my inquiry. I'm not debating, I'm not challenging the Polk forum as I love it but I would like to know why my April Fool's JOKE got shut down. Again, it wasn't a joke, a lie or anything other than an April fool's joke/prank. I was flat out honest as to what was going on.

Fact: At the very end [last two posts] I was made to look like the **** with no chance of responding without creating a thread that would most likely be shut down because I was "breaking the rules".

The mods had NO IDEA what I was trying to accomplish. No idea whatsoever. I guess they can't comprehend that other human beings actually have a brain that can think beyond the post they just [go figure] made other than them. That's a shame.

Go ahead, delete it. I know you will. ;)

All I know is that I'm still not breaking a rule and you have NO reason to delete this thread. I have finally accomplished what my ultimate goal was but at the same time, you both deprived many, many members the message i was trying to send.

For that, you should feel like the donkey.

Problem is that I can't e-mail anybody BUT the mods that can make any change, unless I want to waste the folks I really don't want to bother with their time.....which is not advancing the forum, it seems. The mods are the issue here. So, where does one go?

    That's right. I said it.

I have to say that the closing of that thread left me scratching my head.

I have a huge opinion about the moderators that will ultimately result in me being banned.

Lets just say I dont participate in this forum much anymore because of it.

If it's the thread where someone claimed their gear was stolen, then I just thought it was all in bad taste, however I'm not sure being in bad taste is necessarily against the rules. We would probably need to shut down a lot of threads if bad taste is now against the rules!

This is the thread. It was an April Fool's prank. Nothing more, nothing less. The last thing I said when I left was that.....and I quote......."Some of you need to lighten up a bit".

Then the thread was closed and I was made to look like the ****.

It was never meant to be "funny". An April Fools hoax is to make people believe a flat out lie. A radio station [in the past] made the announcement that U2 would be making a surprise rooftop concert in some town. Thousands upon thousands of people showed up for the free U2 concert. What they ended up seeing was a knockoff U2 band.

Sports Illustrated published a story about a new rookie pitcher who planned to play for the Mets. His name was Sidd Finch, and he could reportedly throw a baseball at 168 mph with pinpoint accuracy. This was 65 mph faster than the previous record. Surprisingly, Sidd Finch had never even played the game before. Instead, he had mastered the "art of the pitch" in a Tibetan monastery under the guidance of the "great poet-saint Lama Milaraspa." Mets fans celebrated their teams' amazing luck at having found such a gifted player, and Sports Illustrated was flooded with requests for more information. In reality this legendary player only existed in the imagination of the author of the article, George Plimpton.

The respected BBC news show Panorama announced that thanks to a very mild winter and the virtual elimination of the dreaded spaghetti weevil, Swiss farmers were enjoying a bumper spaghetti crop. It accompanied this announcement with footage of Swiss peasants pulling strands of spaghetti down from trees. Huge numbers of viewers were taken in. Many called the BBC wanting to know how they could grow their own spaghetti tree.

The Taco Bell Corporation announced it had bought the Liberty Bell and was renaming it the Taco Liberty Bell. Hundreds of outraged citizens called the National Historic Park in Philadelphia where the bell was housed to express their anger. Their nerves were only calmed when Taco Bell revealed, a few hours later, that it was all a practical joke. The best line of the day came when White House press secretary Mike McCurry was asked about the sale. Thinking on his feet, he responded that the Lincoln Memorial had also been sold. It would now be known, he said, as the Ford Lincoln Mercury Memorial.

The British astronomer Patrick Moore announced on BBC Radio 2 that at 9:47 AM a once-in-a-lifetime astronomical event was going to occur that listeners could experience in their very own homes. The planet Pluto would pass behind Jupiter, temporarily causing a gravitational alignment that would counteract and lessen the Earth's own gravity. Moore told his listeners that if they jumped in the air at the exact moment that this planetary alignment occurred, they would experience a strange floating sensation. When 9:47 AM arrived, BBC2 began to receive hundreds of phone calls from listeners claiming to have felt the sensation. One woman even reported that she and her eleven friends had risen from their chairs and floated around the room.

All flat out lies to make April Fools day......well, April Fools day. The whole point was to fool people for one day of the calendar year. Unlike the U2 hoax, my hoax cost not one person any money. All of the above hoaxes had the believers [or people that were fooled into believing it really happened or was to happen], the folks that didn't believe it for one second and folks that got enraged at the hoax. My hoax was no different.

Ol' grumpy Grand [George Grand] chimed in and said "I get the distinct impression the "karma" evolved after a couple people watched all the heartfelt responses, then thought long and hard about just how dumb the entire affair was. Should've given it more thought in the early stages.". To which I replied...
Actually, I knew before I made the post exactly how I wanted to do it and how I wanted it to go down. I knew it would upset some people and I also knew it would get some people. I also knew that some people wouldn't fall for it and that regardless of what went down, there would be a karma.

What I didn't know was that Russ would be adding more to the Karma and that some people would get so bent out of shape over an April Fool's day hoax. I think someone here has already said it best....."those people need to know in advance that I don't give a sh#t."

I knew since three days ago that I wanted to make this post, after answering a question on some other thread about security. I had a vision and a goal. Those that know me know that with the exception of being a smart **** on occasion, I like to help people when I can. The whole point of the thread here and over at CP was to help me and hopefully draw attention to whether or not YOUR rig is properly insured....or at the very least get folks thinking about the security of the systems they have worked so hard to build.

The thread was to go in three phases [yes, I do have the ability to think long term]. The first phase would be the April fool's hoax [not a funny joke, but a hoax]. The second phase after the April fools hoax simmered down a bit was to be the Karma giveaway. While the thread was still getting hits left and right, the third and final phase would be put into place. That would be the helpful part of me. Taking the thread while it was still getting 100 hits [on average] per hour and shifting it to a discussion on security and whether or not you think or "know for a fact" in writing that your rig is insured.

I did this because a couple of years ago, I found out that [even though I had full replacement coverage on everything in the house] my rig was not covered. Some of you remember that lightning strike that knocked out two recently refurbished amplifiers, right? Well I made a post here and over at CP about insurance and insurance coverage. Nobody really wants to read such a mundane topic and I really never got a solution to getting my rig insured. I wanted to knock out two birds with one stone. I wanted to take a "hot" thread and get the discussion going again to where I could find out how to get my rig insured, while drawing awareness to the fact that other members may "think" that there rig was insured....when in fact, it may not be.

It may have been a twisted way of getting things done but what about me isn't twisted?

The mods at CP closed down my thread when it was getting over 100 hits per hour. That would have been the perfect opportunity to begin phase three of the thread, just before I announced the winner of the Karma. The mods completely **** up my entire plan and here I am again, rig not insured with no new information. To top it off, they made me look to be an **** over the entire affair and then promptly closed the thread down.

At this point, I have absolutely no desire to continue my membership over at CP. I try to help people and I'm made to look like the ****. They wonder why senior members are dropping like flies over there? Well, this is a prime example.

Jesse, I will not contact anybody over at CP. I thought more about it and I just don't have the desire to remain a member over there constantly trying to win childish "battles" with a moderator that just wants to make my life over there nothing short of difficult. I really do have better things to do with my time. If you would, please contact Polk Corporate and request that they send me the labels to get this surround bar setup out of my house.

And that's the whole truth and nothing but the truth.....

But unfortunately Club Polk is now a place of minority wins and n00bs and trolls can get vets banned.

Not to mention the moderators are about as biased about things as a right wing left wing debate....

They had better answer it right or I could care less on coming back again like so many other senior members. It may be a corporate site but it's ran like a personal "I have a bigger dick than you" site.

That's fine. Yours may be bigger. I have no issue with that. I'll just move on to better things.

I really don't see the point of all this. If you don't like the forum move on. If you want to stay, accept it for what it is.

"Challenging" whomever you think is responsible for whatever you think may have been done to you does not benefit you or the forum. Let it go and leave...let it go and stay...but let it go.

I did. I would have never put myself in that position in the first place...so I don't have any way to empathise with you from that respect. Did you really think that your joke did not have the potential to go wrong and rub folks the wrong way? You talk about senior members and all...there were several of the "so called" senior members that truly didn't appreciate the humor.

It was not completely taken the way you wanted/hoped/expected...it appears there were complaints. Regardless of your intentions...it didn't go well. You know what the saying is..."the road to hell is paved with good intentions".

I repeat...regardless of what you decide to do about participating here...as has been stated very clearly...it is what it is. I really would just let it be and not stay upset over something that happened on an online audio forum.

Was it in bad taste? Possibly, but I didn't let it ruin my day. I found it to be pretty funny, actually.

I thought that calling the thieves "buttmunches" was enough to give away the fact that it was an April Fools joke.

The fact that it was on April Fools day was another big indicator of that fact.

A thread got closed, whooptie do, welcome to the fold. What good does it do to rehash things? Do you think you are the first person to have a thread closed? Really? You weren't banned, or repremanded, at least as far as I know. It hit close to home for some people, and not just mods - the emails started to roll in. This RIGHT after Al's speech to all of us? I get it, and it could of come across as light hearted, etc - but it didn't, big deal. If you have a complaint, you know the email address, type it up, send it on, but why take the board two steps back when we're struggling to take one step forward?

You think I haven't put my foot in my mouth and upset people since I've been here? A lot of us have, it happens. Part of it is timing and the 'state of the world' on any given day, if you had posted it 5 years ago, or 2 years from now, perhaps the reaction would have been different.

Great things are coming for this forum, if you or anyone else wants to hold grudges, it's just not worth it. You've got a killer system, you've got a lot of friends here, just suck it up and move forward. It's easy, it's simple. I appreciate you as does Polk and, beleive it or not, even though we might not have the same opinions audio wise, or even get along - it doesn't matter - I respect your passion for the hobby - which is why we all joined this forum in first place.

It's a growing process for everyone, Polk, forum members, old timers, newbies - we'll get through it and come out smelling like a rose on the tail end of all this - but only with a TON of support, including yours Tom.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Tom your not the first nor will you be the last person to have a thread closed, as you may have noticed threads are now getting closed that have the potential to turn nasty before they go that far, that could be the reason why this one was closed, part of it could have been the statements that said.....

"I knew it would upset some people" and "I think someone here has already said it best....."those people need to know in advance that I don't give a sh#t."

Well those statements are not exactly friendly in nature and irregardless of whether or not you meant them or not in a bad way it certainly had the potential to turn into a **** fest.

If you choose to get all bent out of shape and leave the forum because the tide has turned the other way to what you may feel is over moderation that is your choice but for better or worse the moderators have their orders to shut down threads "BEFORE" they go south.

Think about it from their point of view :)

Tom, I was one of the people who were outspoken about finding no humor in your post. Was it something that should have been deleted? I guess I can see some reasons to shut it down and some reasons not to. But, is it really that big of a deal. Start a new thread about insuring your gear - you certainly have peoples attention now,

If the above quote is true, why stir up a hornet's nest? We may not agree on everything, but I appreciate your contirbutions to the forum and you certainly have a lot of friends here. Isn't it worth it to move on?

I thought it was a pretty good way to open up the Karma you offered. It was appropiate since it was April's Fool, but as others mentioned it could be a joke I still thought cool prank. The karma included was original and a way to go out with something nice in the end. Not sure where it went wrong though. I wouldn't stress it, but I understand your curiosity in wanting to know though.

I thought it was pretty funny. But I guess I have a sense of humor.

So this has been stewing for close to a month? Let it go.........you should have let it go awhile ago. I didn't find it particularly funny or even original and it did have the potential to go down hill.......in fact it was heading that way. I say it was 50/50 of being shut down and it fell on the wrong 50%.

Threatening to leave the forum over this? Must be some other issues going on. I hope you stay Tom.........there someone said it. Time to move on before this silliness becomes one of those *legendary* threads.

Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it.
