Why is so hard to decide, lol. I can get the 3310 for $740 and the 876 for $850, both refurbish. Both have the options I want. Just want to know which one have the best upconvertion and sound. Any sugestions, pros and cons. Thanks in advance.

I haven't heard either of these recievers. I do currently own a Denon 2809 and also owned a Onkyo 806. I much prefer the sound of the Denon, but YMMV. In my experience the Denon seems to be the better built reciever of the two and I don't have any of the small nagging problems with the Denon that I had with the Onkyo (delay in HDMI switching, popping when switching from HDMI sources to other sources, blue spots in black backgound, less than black backgrounds).

I think the newer Denons have been less reliable than the older ones. But the 3310 is just out so..who knows. Certainly Mantis thinks that the Denons have seen better days.
In terms of power...the Onkyo will be a bit more powerful. This question is pretty subjective so let me add my two cents.

I own a Denon AVR 2807 which has their 'house' sound. I'm sure it's not too different from Dawg's newer 09--sound wise?

I also own an Onkyo TX-SR 805....and though the 806 Dawg mentions was OK. The audio on the 805 was superior and very much like the TX-SR875-876 which added just a smidgeon more wattage to the 130 watt 805. The 806 is not a true 130 watt AVR in its output..because the 805 can actually put out 130 or more continuous to all 5 surround channels at the same time--bench test show this and it ought to because its about 14 lbs heavier than the 806.

The 805 also has the Burr Brown DACs, same weight, almost the same audio section as its upscale brother the 875/6 which mainly adds better video processing.

When I compare my 805 to the Denon, I've got to say 805 by a margin. MORE powerful, fuller, more dynamic sound--that massive transformer in there is there for a REASON.

So if it were me. I'd go Onkyo-876...most of the switching problems Dawgfish talks about should be solved in that model and if it is refurb I would assume Onkyo put the latest firmware on it!

However, you must hear these yourself....because you may prefer the Denon sound to the Onkyo sound...you never know what you like. I like both of my AVRs but I went with the 805 for my main sytem. I decided to temporarily use the Denon as a pre for my Adcom power amp. Now once we add a power amp to the Denon it becomes an entirely new machine and reaches its zenith in performance.

Thanks for the answers guys. I really appreciated. The 876 is a older model and no one seen to have it on hand to listen to. I think I'm going with the Denon because, the Denon refurbish dealer is close by and that's a plus if something goes wrong. Not to mention is going to be $90 bucks cheaper. I'll be using that money to buy cables and any other thing I will need to set this up. Thanks again.

You have taken good decision to go with Denon. As such both are good one but Denon are most reliable one. I have owned Denon and will stick it to for bunch of years.

The NAD T-765HD $1,999 from Audio Advisor is a BEAST it can drive speakers down to 2 Ohms. I love my HK 635 but the NAD is the one to get.

Keep your warranty card and receipt on hand , you will need it.

I'm gonna tell you about a job I did. For a big job with 2 theaters we could not get the Pioneer ELite receivers spec'd for this job due to we sold out all of ours and Pioneer is sold out. So we had to use Denon. We had 2310's on this job and both failed in less then a week. As a company we basically stopped selling Denon for this very reason. The failure rate is way to high. Our company sold Denon receivers but over the last 4 to 5 years now they have been going down hill. It's sad as Denon offers a nice package.

This job for us basically put the nail on the coffin for Denon. I wil never ever spec or approve a spec with any Denon products on it.

I own 2 systems : 1. Onkyo 876 with all Mirage speakers and 2 Polk Psw 505 subs. 2. All Pio system consists of BDO51fd/Bdp95/ DVD58/ SC05 AVR with all Def Tech Sm450s and a Klipsch RD10 sub.

I love both systems as far as H/T application. Clean, clear and powerful in a 14x16 room.
I wish I can have another Denon system but the " made in China" really turns me off. Hopefully one day, I can go with the 4810 CI ( made in Japan) when budget allowing.

Congrats on your new purchase. Enjoy the new ARV. The best system is the system your ear telling you that this is it. For now, my Onkyo 876 and my Pio SC05 are "IT".
