The older non-bluray Oppos were supposed to be good players and even do SACD also.

Just an update on the speaker choice I made by going with teh Monitor 50s.
Im listening to the Teac ones at the moment. I have put away the monitor 50s because I am scared I will damage more than just the tweeters with the old reciever...and I can't believe I thought that my speakers gave my high quailty sound before.
I mean...the teacs sound muddy. I never really knew what people ment but know I do. Plus with the monitor 50s...I had to turn the sub up actually.... with teh Teacs I have to turn them down....
Simply impressed.Receiver

Have you ever listened to one? Not saying some don't like them but i own one and it sounds like total crap for a CDP. The Denon can be had at the same price and completely blows it out the water.Living Room Rig:D

+1 for the Denon 2910 being a budget universal player. I'm currently using it in my 2-channel system when i'm not streaming FLACs.. I really like sound quality with my CDs, DVD-A's, etc.
I also use an external DAC, but don't mind the internal DACs in the Denon.

Yeah I am currently waiting on a bid at ebay form a denon...I really hope I can score it. FIngers crossed.
As for the amp I can't wait til tuesday. I am going to test it on my old speakers first...see if it improves the clarity...if it does well that is a nifty trick ha!
I know my polks are extremely defined and clear on m older Teac amp...so I can wait to see what they sound like on a brand new up to date amp.Receiver

YOU sir are starting on the right path!
The best thing you can do to insure your gear esp if you have frequent brown outs, very rural dirty power, very old wiring or dimming lights when your fridge "turns on". You could shop around or find a used one at a garage sale, closeout or when buying used gear. Just ask a seller "hey got an extra line conditioner to sweeten the deal?"
Think of it as the cinder block house foundation for your listening system. Wish everyone did it more often. Always sad to hear when some great vintage gear has given up the ghost due to a line voltage spike which could have been prevented with $50-100 equipment. Heck, that's usually less than half of what they pair for interconnect cables and speaker wire, and that's just sad when they don't make the investment.
I bought this one and have used them for years at work with computers. It's an APC for $50 with free shipping from Buy.com. Kind of cheap but it does the job ok, and sure other will recommend something better, but I also have good municipal power with good house wiring and no brown outs.

No I was only going by what some members of "another audio forum" wrote about them. I Have old CDPs Carver SD/a-450, PDX9010 & a couple kyoceras -

No, I wasn't referring to the Oppo's HDMI outputs.
I've heard that those Pio's are decent for what they are(universal players). But, I find it impossible to believe that they're going to stand up to ANY CD player less than $1000. There's too much unnecessary circuitry in the signal path that muddies the sound up.
Have you heard and directly compared every player in the -1000 range? I highly doubt it. So, you don't really have anything to back that statement up.
You're claiming that the Pioneer BDP51FD Blu-ray player will smoke a Marantz SA11S1? They can be had for around $900 pretty easily, with a little patience.
I refuse to believe that one.
To the OP. If you're wanting to spend around $100 on a CD player, I'd strongly suggest looking into a used Denon 2910. I'm using one in my 2 channel rig, and it's a fantastic sounding player. It doesn't compete with higher end CD players, but for the price it's hard to beat. It's a fantastic sounding SACD player, for starters. It's Redbook playback is great as well. The internal DAC's are great...but things got even better with mine when I added an external DAC. It's got a Pure Direct mode that I use for SACD, that turns off the video outputs and digital outputs. For Redbook, I use the Denon as a transport with a DPA Little Bit Three DAC. My CD playback sounds excellent.
Things got better with the DAC, but they'll still sound great using the Denon's internal DAC's. If you got one, you might want to consider adding an external DAC sometime down the line. They can be had for pretty cheap...you can get a good one for less than $100 very easily. They'll make a tremendous difference in your sound.
CC has a good point. If I could start all over again, I would leave open the possibilities for future upgrades. Visualize where you might be in 5 years from now and what gear you would like to have in front of you. Would have saved probably at least a grand now that I look back on it. Though, experimentation and mistakes oddly are half the fun... What I am trying to say is, don't paint yourself into a corner. Grab gear you can grow with. The Denon 2910 is chalk full of upgrade goody abilities more so than a simple CD player.
Though, have to agree with another poster who said that a single dedicated 2 channel CD will sound better. This is true. Even CC admits a better DAC sounds sweeter on the Denon.
Either way you can't go wrong really.
Let me retract a bit: If I had to do it all again I would still go with a nice 2 channel CD player. They do sound better and you already have a PS3 for movies, true.

That is what I have decided....
If anyone has one and is willing to sell met me know?
Wow, just checked that out. I like the design. For all the HT junk lately, I like that. Decent phono, simple design and not a million useless inputs, well thought out, and a very sexy look. Plastic vol nub sucks though. Like limp titties.
Found a good Audiogon review for you:

PT found a great set of sony ES CDP's. That C85ES is a great buy!!! I used to own it.
What you don't know is that small volume nub on it is actually a selectable volume out master volume also accessible via the remote. This sexy **** is actually a CDP and Pre in one.
On the back is two sets of RCA outputs: fixed and variable attenuator.
I loved that unit. Only sold it when I moved from Seattle to London during college and thought I wasn't coming back...
The eBay one sold, but you can find it here for $100:
http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtlplay&1276571203&/Sony-cdp-c85es-5-disc-changer
Research Sony ES CDP's. They are some of the best. They are very well made and won't fail. I've had 5 of them with no issues. -
I really like APCs as surge protector however, don't forget you are building an entry level system and you definitely don't need to break the bank when buying your APC. I am sure you must have some discount store where you can get good deals on such. Sometimes, end of year models are sold at great pricing. COSTCO also carries the APC line and usually their price are fair.
Cheers!

I think that I will wait to get one of those...
I just don't want to kill my piggy bank quite yet.
