Want a few things. Anyone got?

I am looking to buy a receiver. I have come to decide on the Harmon Kardon HK 3490. If anyone has one of these lemme know a price and some pics...
If anyone has an amp relatively close to the specs this amp holds (I need as close to 150 watts per channel my monitor 50s) let me know as well. A sub-out is a must.
Next. I need a cd player for the receiver. I've seen a few posted for sale but have been to slow to take them. I need a component cd player. Pics and prices as well.
Please and thank you.

Do not know what you meant by " component CD player" but if you need a good CDP for 2 channel audio at a reasonable price, please search for the Rotel CDP1062/1072.

BTW, I own 3 of the Pio BDP51fd and I am very happy with them. You will have to spend over $1,000.00 to have a better SQ in 2 channel analog. I need to clarify that mine are not for sale. They are here to stay in my Pio system.

Just curious, but how can you make a staement like that? Have you heard all of the player below 1K?:)

    Care to back that up?

If that statement was true every time I heard it thrown around...everything would sound better than everything else, no matter the price. Unless you've heard every option out there for less than $1000...you can't really back that up. I've heard pretty decent things about those Pio's, but you can find a HELL of a CD player for less than $1000. The Rotel RCD-1072, Oppo BDP83SE and with some searching, even a Marantz SA-11S1.

Keep your eye out for a Denon DVD-2910 universal player. It's an excellent 2 channel source, and they don't break the bank.

PC, if you want good exposure you need to be clear in your subject title.

In your case you need to specify you are on a budget (put some numbers) mention the gear you presently own and what you are trying to achieve.

IE: You just bought new Polk M50 right?
You just noticed your present amp (TEAC) is not appropriate to run
    your new speakers, right?
You do not own a CDP at this point but want something better than MP3 or other computer format you have been usingm right?

So you basically are starting all over with limited budget. You want decent gear without breaking the bankm right?

Now, don't limit your self with CDP since you can achieve the same results with DVD or HDDVD players that can achieve decent SQ. Curt just gave you a good example with the Denon he suggested. Another example (you have just missed this one) is this: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100453 and this was in fact recommended as a good CDP option: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1327517&postcount=7

Other options are any HD DVD players which no longer support its defunct format but can be used a decent CDP and even allow you to upscale your DVDs if you own or rent any.

As pointed there are decent CDP players out there way below 1K$. You are building a modest mid-fi system, don't let people push you to buy equipment that is more likely made for higher-end set-ups.

Don't forget to check CP's FS daily and to check and keep active your own post. With patience you will find what you need within your own budget.

    Cheers!

Yeah it was already sold i skimmed down and saw 150 was ready to send pm but saw someone already got it.
Kinda crappy but oh well. You are correct in the fact that this is a limited budget.
I need a receiver as close to 150 watts RMS (as true to 150 as well) Under I'd say no more than 300-400
I also need a cd player (whatever, blueray, dvd it doesn't ,matter as long as it plays my cds) and wouldn't be willing to pay more than 200 for one of those...maybe more id it is really fantastic and does lots of neat tricks
    Any one have suggestions?
Is there anything i am missing for my system?
    Thanks for the help.

Anyone got any good used receivers or cd players at some decent prices?

yes, Hurt Locker is an Excellent flick in my book!

As far as BD player, I bought one Panasonic BD60 off Amazon for $120 and some change, for Christmas present to my bro. Excellent player! Pics are great, features and media compatibility are plentiful. I installed it for him, connected to his LCD panel.

I just checked Amazon and it's no longer available there, and price went up to $199 from third party.

    This one looks decent:

Go to AVS forum and read abt the Pio BDO51FD to see what kind of value it is. I have used Rega, Rotel and the Cary CDP1, the Pio BDP 51 fd should be sold at $999.00 for its SQ.

I am not really looking for a 1000 anything...that's more than I paid for my car...
I can justify paying around 400 for a receiver...if its a nice one sure...and a hundred or so for a decent cd player or what not...but 1000 not a chance....
That was my budget for my stereo.... I've already spent about 400 of it....

AVS forum? The idea of going there makes me feel a little sick...too many of the Anti-HiFi Insurgents over there for my tastes.

No, I wasn't referring to the Oppo's HDMI outputs.

I've heard that those Pio's are decent for what they are(universal players). But, I find it impossible to believe that they're going to stand up to ANY CD player less than $1000. There's too much unnecessary circuitry in the signal path that muddies the sound up.

Have you heard and directly compared every player in the -1000 range? I highly doubt it. So, you don't really have anything to back that statement up.

You're claiming that the Pioneer BDP51FD Blu-ray player will smoke a Marantz SA11S1? They can be had for around $900 pretty easily, with a little patience.

I refuse to believe that one.

To the OP. If you're wanting to spend around $100 on a CD player, I'd strongly suggest looking into a used Denon 2910. I'm using one in my 2 channel rig, and it's a fantastic sounding player. It doesn't compete with higher end CD players, but for the price it's hard to beat. It's a fantastic sounding SACD player, for starters. It's Redbook playback is great as well. The internal DAC's are great...but things got even better with mine when I added an external DAC. It's got a Pure Direct mode that I use for SACD, that turns off the video outputs and digital outputs. For Redbook, I use the Denon as a transport with a DPA Little Bit Three DAC. My CD playback sounds excellent.

Things got better with the DAC, but they'll still sound great using the Denon's internal DAC's. If you got one, you might want to consider adding an external DAC sometime down the line. They can be had for pretty cheap...you can get a good one for less than $100 very easily. They'll make a tremendous difference in your sound.

Sorry to offend you and your Denon and Marantz. Yes, there are arrogant and narrowed-minded in any forum such as AVS and Club Polk. However, at AVS forum there are some very hepful owner threads that OP can use . Over 900 posts praised the performance/ cost ratio of the BDP51fd that means something. Also, the BPD1FD with its Wofson Dacs is second to none and it is not " made in China".

I am no fanboy of any brand name but I do stear away from unreliable manufactures and products with the " made in China" imprint on the back of the units and I know which is which.

The Pio BDPO51FD/ BDp05 and the BDP09 all come with the PLSQ ( jitter reduction) when using with Pio AVR . Do not take my words for it, google around see how highly praised these BDPs when using as CDP with the PLSQ feature.

Keep in mind that the laser head has its own life span limited. I would never buy a used CDP for that reason.

The Denon 3910 (?) was a pretty decent one once it was moded. Still, I am against buying used CDP since you will never know how long it has been used .

    Good luck and happy listening.:)
