Gents,

Just wanted to inform you that Pioneer has released a firmware fix that takes care of audio dropouts that occur with the DD+ codec. In order to get this fix call your local service center for the patch. I have Pioneer coming out to my place tomorrow to install it on mine. Also when speaking with the Pio rep, you cannot perform the firmware fix yourself, you have to call the local service center, ymmv. Mantis I'm sure you maybe able to work this out since your a dealer. Just an update as I have complained to Pioneer for sometime about this.

There was a recent firmware update for the SC-25/27 that also fixed this issue. It actually prompted me to express my concern to Pioneer in regards to the prior models which most of us own. As for cost it is not costing me anything here, since I had Pioneer USA to contact a local office here to perform the task locally. YMMV. Give them a call and see what they say.

Confirmed, no more audio dropouts when playing back DD+ codec via HDMI. This firmware update is good through all models to include, SC 25/27 and 05/07. Check with your local dealers. It was actually a very simple fix, new firmware for DSP chips are 1003. You can check yours by turning vol level to --- on the front panel turn multizone to off. Then power up pressing power + return on the front panel for 5 seconds. I will get with Pio rep tomorrow for the files. Update took less than two minutes and simply required using thumbdrive. If you guys are interested let me know.

This fw should also fix the remote power on issue where the unit will not respond to power button from the remote. But do not perform the upgrade by yourself, it will void the warranty.

I don't think they charge for the update, but you have to take it in to get the update, last I knew.

You would think they would have a method for doing it yourself, other manufacturers have for years. Save them a fortune in support, and save the end user the trouble of having to unhook everything.

Are these the updates and instructions at this link? http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/HomeEntertainment/AV-Receivers/EliteReceivers/ci.SC-27.Kuro?tab=F

The site indicates the last update was 10/13/2010.

There is no charge for the update. You have to take the unit in for the flash update. This will flash the chipsets in your AVR and bring it up to speed. The DD+ will flash the DSP chips and prevent the audio dropouts with the Dolby Digital Plus codec.

@ Sherardp, the update must be done by the service rep and there's no way that the owner can, right? It's just a P A I N in da A$$ to disconnect...

FINALLY, I have the beast unplugged last night with care. I felt like a surgeon . Called the local Pioneer branch for service, I couldn't believe the bonding between a Man and a unit like this can be so intimate.

Contact your local Pio rep and see if they will pass it to you with the instructions. It was super easy for me to do. Be very careful though, some guys over and AVS bricked their units trying it themselves.
