A quick count this evening seems to show I could have nearly 30 limes from my lime tree! :Danim_bannana.gif

Does anyone have any tips to help make them sweet and juicy?

Thanks,
Wes

I don't normally look for sweetness in a lime. :p Good watering should make them juicy, though.

Limes love sunshine...the more the better.
I have a couple of golden mandorin, (a hybrid) and 3 Philippine calamandins at my house in California..
They make the best juice... Good luck to you I know the thrill of having producing citrus..

Thanks, Dean. What about watering? Another guy told me to water them really heavily every 2 weeks rather then a light watering every other day or so.

I have a key lime tree I grew from seed...how the hell did you get it to make limes? Everything I've read saysy citrus will take up to 10 years to produce fruit when grown from seed. Maybe I'll just have to buy a grafted one and move to southern cali :(

    Key lime pie.

Granted they aren't Key limes most likely but you can honestly use any limes. It's just going to taste slightly different. Different as in sweeter. It'll be greener in color too instead of the brackish yellow of the Key lime. Key limes are limes but they are more yellowish in color and more tart than typical limes which are the green buggers you see jammed in Corona bottles. I think they are a Persian lime or some derivative thereof.

A friend of my parents lives in Texas. He has key lime trees and Pecan trees in his backyard. He sends boxes of Key limes and Pecans at various points in the year. They make the best pies since they are picked, boxes and shipped in the same day. They show up being just over a day off the tree. They smell awesome! He sent my mom a recipe for Key lime pie and told us what the difference was between limes.

Nice Wes! I don't have any growing tips, just drinking tips....

Tequila, Agave Nectar (found some @ Bevmo), 2 fresh limes juiced, and a little beer in the pitcher....tried this little margarita variation a couple weekends ago with positive results....

I don't know what I did (or didn't) do. I got a single solitary piece of fruit last year and I guess all the winter rain we got this year really helped. The tree was already there when I bought the house, so I have no idea how old it is. I also pulled up a **** agave that was next to the tree so it would have a little less competition.

I'm gonna get some citrus food/fertilizer this weekend to give it a boost.

I bought these when they were 2/3 years old from Four Seasons. Online.
They started producing the next year. I bought from them a hydrometer that I just poked into the ground next to them. They get watered when they are dry.
So a good soaking every two weeks sounds right. Unless you live in El Paso, you might want to do it more often.
I especially like the calamondins, (calamansi) they produce year round.:)

I have grown citrus from seeds (lime, lemon & orange) and all have produced fruit within 2yrs. I would not say it was very edible but it was fruit. If i would of let them grow longer and not gotten tired of hauling them in and out of the house in the fall & summer the fruit would of been much bigger and tastier.

My tree is maybe a 2.5ft by 2.5ft bush right now. Leaves playing card sized but no flowers or fruit. Plenty of thorns though lol. I'd love to have some limes start growing!

Assuming I get any, I'm up for a fruit swap. That means we both have to remember this next winter. :D

We cut the tree down once, and it grew back.

It would help if you know your soil pH. Lime trees like acidic soil and preferably below 7.0. What type of soil do you have? Is it, more clay, peat, sand, silt or loamy? To lower your pH you need to add sulfur. To raise it (which is probably not necessary) you would add lime (that's calcium carbonate, not actual limes......;):D)
