Yesterday I had an amp failure in my denon AVR790. I'll take it to service, but, maybe this is is a sign to start thinking in another one. ;)

Anyway, of course I want something with preouts. The max budget, for a new AVR is 1k. I don't want to go with yamaha, onkyo or HK, just personal preference (I know maybe is not important compared with sound but I don't like the external look of those).

I'm considering the Cambridge 640R and the marantz SR5004. Any other suggestions in that price range??

For the moment, I'm screwed, it is really anoying and sad to listen only the crappy TV speakers :(

Many thanks

You don't like the 'external' appearance of those? Not sure what that means since all three look so 'very' different.

It makes it hard to suggest anything?

What do you think about Pioneer Elites? Maybe one of the SC-05/25(ICE-amp) series..those are nice! They have that Urushi finish....!

Get another denon an older 1 like a 3801 or 3803 they have preouts just they dont do the new formats. The 3803 has HDMI. I think they are the last of the qualitiy denon ive had a 3801 for 6 yrs no problems and I abuse it all the time its built like a tank.

thanks chn. I know those three are very different, is just personal taste :p

I'm also considering a pioneer elite.

Btw greg, I'll really need the new formats, since I play a lot of PS3 games, and like to watch blurays.

I do not believe the 3803 has HDMI as my 3805 does not. The first 38 series Denon may of been the 3806. I do know for a fact that the 3808ci has HDMI and also the new codac's for Blu-ray. On the Ebay they have been selling for 500.00 to 800.00

Your correct the 3808 has HDMI but not the new codac's.:)

    thanks!

    more info:

My current speakers are TSi300 for fronts, CS10 for center and TSi100 as surrounds, along with a velodyne DLS-R4000.

I would like to add TSi500 and CS20 in the future, with external amplification.

Considering that possibly I'll use Emo amps, and I prefer a warmer sound, which AVR would suit my preferences?

    thanks

sorry but the Denon 3808ci does have dolby true HD and DTS master HD.
just made sure to look at the site before i posted. I do agree that their current crop does not seem to be as well built as the older designs. I was looking at the 43 series but i did'nt need all the wi-fi and other networking stuff so it seemed to me anyway that 2grand was a bit much for me just to get the Denon link for my 3910.

I´d love to get one of those, but they are a bit expensive aren´t they? I mean, my max budget is 1k.

What do you think about the VSX-92THX compared with the VSX-21TXH. I think the former is a old model, but seems to have all the codecs, plus 130W per channel.

Nope the Pio SC 25 is your budget new. The SZC-05 and the SC-07 is also in your budget if you can find one left over from last yr.

www.valueelectronics.com and ask for Rob. They carry alot of brands also with excellent pricing.

Both of those get very good reviews from their owners and I am confident that either one would be a good choice. I would consider the Cambridge a notch above the Marantz and I think most audiophiles would agree with me (D&M Holdings own Denon, Marantz, McIntosh, Boston Acoustics, and a few others ...). Another brand you might consider, on a similar level to Cambridge, would be NAD (the original entry level "audiophile" British brand, but owned by Canadians now, AFIK).

The only product really in your price range would be T765, for a bit over, or just under $1,000 shipped, depending if you buy a new model or a refurbished model. There are at least two Polkies that own this exact model. It will be out of your price range, however, if you need the new HD audio formats. If you don't need HDMI, you can get some great deals on the T754 still (which is what I have), for $550 at the moment, about 50% of MSRP. This is one of the most underestimated deals on the market today IMHO, especially if you have 4 ohm speakers to drive (with no amplifier), but perhaps because of the absence of HDMI connectivity, it seems to get ignored frequently.

NAD reputedly plays very well with Polk, and as an owner, I would tend to agree with that wholeheartedly. In fact, because of the beefy power supply, "music first" philosophy, and conservative ratings, you may never need an external amplifier with a NAD receiver IMO, unless you have some especially inefficient speakers ... even then, all NAD products are 4 and 2 ohm stable. OTOH, not everyone likes the discreet, no flashy gold logos, no bling, no blinky blue lights appearance, and those that don't would probably call it bland or dull, so you'll have to decide about that for yourself! The newest models, like the T765, are not quite as discreet in appearance as the previous generations.

I´m also considering the T747? What do you think? looks like a solid unit. Do you think it will pair well with my TSi setup? Is it enough power?

I like movies and games, but I really have a strong preference for music, so, I wonder if this is the more ¨musical¨ receiver that would suit my preferences.
