Neighbor was gonna call the cops on me!

So I was chatting with my next door neighbor, and he tells me not to blame him if the cops come knocking at my door. Seems I was playing too loud for the neighbor across the street Friday night. I had purchased Avatar on BluRay and had the volume up pretty good. I live in a bungalow (single, detached home) and my friend next door says that he knows full well when I'm playing because the glasses and silverware in his kitchen shakes. He doesn't mind though, and besides, I don't do it all that often or too late into the evening....except last Friday night....ooops...I lost track of time (it was near midnight), and frankly, I didn't think I'd be bothering someone ACROSS the street.

Looks like I'll have to pay more attention to the volume control and time of day.

Tell your neighbor that he can kiss your **** and mind his buiness. It's Friday night and it's not like you live in an apartment building

How many decibels is it inside your place? I've never even reached 50... It sounds like you really have it turned up...

That will only work if your neighbor doesn't have an arsenal of firepower to rival a third-word dictator like mine does.

Best way is to have a nice chat with the neighbour and tell him that if your music or movies disturb him to not be shy and call you to let you know. I did this with my new neighbour (semi detached) and I never have any problems with them. The only time I ever had problem with him was when I worked replacing the shingles on the roof as he didn't like me working on the roof at 8:00 am on Sunday. He tried to get me for it but the police turned heals after I mentioned I had done my howework with the city and was allowed to do so. My only mistake was not to talk to the neighbour about this project and none of this would have happened (even if neighbour is tiny bit of a jerk).

The last thing this guy needs is a beer...I don't think I've ever seen him sober. Btw, it was his wife that threatened to call the cops. It's odd though, the few times we've chatted there was never any issues...strange that they didn't confront me directly with this and spoke to my next door neighbor instead.

I think it is your neighbour that is having the problem but he is trying to pass the blame to the guy across the street so that you do not have a problem with him. I mean come on your stereo in your basement is causing stuff to rattle across the street...story is suspect to me.

You mean you don't like Mariachi bands? Come on...this is the kind of music that can raise the dead and 'cure' all forms of depression. I have rarely heard such music that was not spirit lifting in some way...even if in a humorous way! There is a great joy and 'joie de vivre' in such sound!

Well I'm lucky. I can have my rig up at ear bleeding levels at 3:00 AM and you can only hear it outside a few feet from the house, that of couse is with the windows closed. I've never had the police called on me. I have had some neighbors come over during the summer days, when the windows are open, are compliment me on the, "awesome stereo system" I have. hehehe.

    I was talking about passive-aggressive, back-stabbing neighbors.

I have neighbors that hang around in a pretty barren section of their yard just because it's close to my house and they might catch a glimpse or hear something that might clue them in to something they think is going on.

I have another neighbor who Jesus freaks on me all the time and while preaching about Jesus to me, flips out on me when I chase his mongrel cat out of my garage and get his daughter's shoelace untangled from her tricycle. Gee dad, why don't you stop telling me about Jesus and pay attention to your own life? maybe you wouldn't be in the position you are in?

I have another neighbor who offers his help with all kinds of stuff. Sometimes he doesn't even ask, he just starts helping. Then he expects payment or some kind of "bonus" at the end of the year.

I have one decent neighbor. He doesn't bother me, I don't bother him. He says hi to me frequently, waves when I pass by, asks how the family is doing. The stuff, a normal human being would ask about. Why can't the others be like that? I wish all they did was play loud music and have parties.

Time to sound deaden the walls, ceiling, etc.

    Double pane acoustic glass.

    Problem solved.

My Klipsch Forte II's are insanely loud (99db sens) and the gf comes in complaining that she can hear it outside, but the neighbors are far enough away, and behind a fence that they don't complain.

HAHAHAHA!!!! We have a guy like that too. He's always quoting biblical passages and such (which doesn't inherently bother me). Then he cussed me out during the snow this year and all of his preachings went out the window! Here's the story: The auger belt snapped on my snowblower while clearing his driveway (sucked up his newspaper and jammed the auger). I ALWAYS clear the driveways for myself and at least 4 of my neighbors. Never have i asked for anything in return. I literally do it because I want to and because they are older. Well after the blower broke, I had to hand shovel my driveway and one of the elderly ladies across the street. At that point, it was every man for themselves!!!! He came out while I was shoveling and asked if I could do his driveway. I respectfully told him that my snow blower broke and that I couldn't do it alone (especially after my back fusion). He then says that he must have done something to upset me because I am turning his back on him when he needs help the most. He is a perfectly capable, mid-forties gentleman with a 15 year old son!!!!!! At this point, I get pissed, but assure him that it is not the case. He then offers to pay me. I again respectfully decline and then suggest that I have a couple of extra shovels that he and his son can use to clear their own driveway. He huffs and puffs, dropping a lot of curse words at me and storms into his house and slams the door. I purposely leave the shovels out for him to use - he uses them and returns one of them completely broken. No note, no thank you - NOTHING!!! EVERY other neighbor in our development is awesome - this guy is on my sh!* list.

Yup, I always close my windows too. I don't walk around or anything else to check, but I know from experience it cannot be heard much outside, and it's never that annoying thumpy bass, like you hear in some cars on the road. I've never understood people who drive around in their cars with the music loud and the windows all down: it seems like the epitome of selfish rudeness to me, but maybe I'm just too old-fashioned.

John it sounds like you're in the middle of a freak show!

I'm lucky. All my neighbors are really cool and helpful when needed. The only problem I ever had was that there is a known registered pediphile whose house is on the bend at the end of my street. On day the perve decided to expose himself from inside his house to my then 8 year old. I didn't call the cops, I simply went to house, knocked on the door and told him if he ever does anything like that again or even so much as drives by my house, I was going to rip his jewels out by the roots. That was four years ago and he drives out of the complex going out the other end to avoid driving past my house.

The reason I didn't call the cops was because my neighbors told me about him and that they've called the cops on him several times because he was exposing himself to their young daughters from inside the house. The cops could never do anything because it was child words against his and he was in his own home and claimed he just forgot to close the blinds when he was getting changed. Well I was having none of that!!!! and haven't had any incidents occur with my boy or anyone else's child in the neighborhood. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

I wasn't afraid that he would call the cops claiming I threatened him because 1) my word against his, and; 2) he's got a long history of pediophilia. As far as I'm concerned he should be in jail with a lost key.

I absolutely hate, and I do mean hate, having to listen to someone else's music. Especially when I am inside with my windows closed, and it is interfering with my music. If someone does this once or twice a year for a party I let it go. But if it is consistent then I have no problem at all calling the police.

Totally agree, nothing worse than having to put up with others unwarranted noise. I never play music with the windows open and obviously there are times that I have to pump up the volume. I'm a big believer in that respect for neighbors is an absolute, and it helps make for a great neighborhood.

We have a new neighbor that lives caddy-corner to our backyard. One night in February he had his windows open blasting some movie with a love scene. The next morning while the wife and I worked moved stuff into our shed I heard him outside and quite loudly proclaimed "did you hear the neighbor watching the porno last night about 9pm". The guy started coughing, but we haven't heard him since!

Luckily I have pretty good neighbors and most of them are at a decent distance from me as everyone has around 2acres of yard on either side of them. I did however have my neighbor across the street come over one time. I thought he was gonna be pissed when I opened the door and gonna give me an earful as my fiance and I are the youngest couple in my neighborhood. I was pleasantly surprised when he asked "what the hell you got in there?" He came in and wanted to hear it, so we enjoyed listening to some tunes for a couple of hours and after wards told me he wants to put a new system together and just wanted to get some ideas. I just turned 32 and he's in his mid 60's and we rocked out together, how cool is that?:D
