Joe,, I hope things get better for you and Phyliss Ann--in our state--a MD cannot just call in a narcotic to a pharmacy--has to be a written script,, so maybe the ER is a hassle,, but you'll get something.

Man does that sound bad...Doctors..well...the problem it that is sounds like your 'diagnosis' is a tough one and, that your doctors may also be part of the problem. But since money is so tight...what I would recommend is not practical (a second opinion or better yet a University Hospital that does research in these areas?).

Hope the pain subsides or that you at least get the right medications. I know what PAIN feels like..I spent a year with severe abdominal pain and took all kinds of parasite drugs, saw various specialists, spent all my money on tests that were negative as a grad student. And after about a year and a half I started to just get better...??? I did get parasites from my time overseas but STRESS added or rather EXTENDED the recovery period by many months!

I know that to be true here too George but they can call products containing "codeine" in it to the pharmacy. Besides I really don't want any of the narcotic drugs if I can avoid it. Too risky for me plus, this pain is keeping me from functioning properly and narcotics would have the same affect.

If I can just get through to 3rd of May using the Tylenol with codeine until we get our SSD checks, I'll be able to afford the drug Fioricet which is what is used in to knock out migraines and severe headaches without the use of narcotics.

    Talk about a bad week how's this;

Got a nasel spray called Migranol that within minutes takes the excrutiating pain I've been suffering in my head (for eight weeks now), face and neck down from a 10 to a managable 7. Wake up last Saturday night, suffocating. My uvela swelled my throat shut and my mouth and throat was so dry it was glued over my windpipe. Jumped out of bed while shaking my wife awake (she's an RN) meanwhile I get a mouthful of water in the back of my throat trying to unglue the uvela. My wife was getting ready to do a tracheotomy meanwhile I start to passout when she pulled the uvela loose. The cause; the Migranol.

See the doctor on Monday to follow up on my out-of-control blood sugar despite proper diet and medication. Doc tells me to stop using the Migranol. Now I'm in excrutiating pain again and the only meds they will give me for migraine or severe headaches is not covered by my pharmacy plan to the tune of $90. They give my Tylenol with Codeine. That's like trying to shoot an elephant with a bee bee gun.

Doc & neurologist recommend coming off of Metaphorman, the diabetes drug I've on to see if that is the cause of these severe headaches and to also get an MRA (as my MRI was negative but was done without contrast) and get an EKG.

EKG results; abnormal. Have to get a stress test. Doc tells me that stress and anxiety are likely exacerbating problems not to mention the excrutiating pain compounding the issues. Doc tells me to quit smoking, I tell him okay but isn't that going raise the stress level even higher, he says yes and to wait until all tests come back, WTF??? Ask doc if I can do the chemical stress test as my head pain, knees and hips won't take the pounding on the treadmill an will quit long before my pulmanary system does, he says, "no, just do it."

In the meantime after stopping the Migranol my uvela turns white and is very painful not to mention swallowing very difficult. Doc swabs for strep and other cultures, result, negative. Doc has no clue what's wrong with the throat now but has kept be off the Migranol. Thinks the Migranol allergy caused a fungus and/or yeast infection, gives me a script for a swish and swallow medication and refers me to an ENT. Another effin doctor to see!!!

Follow up Friday with the Nurse Practitioner diabetes speacialist and the doc.

Nurse takes me off metaphoman and puts me on Lantus shots for diabetes & Tricore for very elevated Triglycerides. Turns out both are tier four drugs, cost; $313 per month. Gives me samples of Lantus and tells me to call her when I find out the actual costs of the medications. Go to pharmacy, cost for both listed above. Call Nurse Practitioner to consult with my insurance formulary as to what drug can be substituted in the tier one level which is affordable to me. She never calls back.

In the meantime, I'm still in excruciating pain and have run out of the Tylenol with codeine which brings the pain level down from a ten to an eight which I'll take anyday over the writhing 10 pain. Call Neurologist for refill, never calls back.

Wife is bleeding profusely when going to the bathroom has to get colonoscopy Tuesday.

Sitting here trying to be calm, head in excrutiating pain with no pain meds to help. Have to eat soft foods like oatmeal because of painful swallowing.

Call doctor this morning about excrutiating pain. Calls me back, tells me to go to the emergency room to get pain meds WTF??? Why can't he just prescribe something I ask? He tells me he's not confortable prescribing pain meds for the headaches until the MRA & Stress test results come back! BTW tried to schedule both MRA and Stress test yesterday, offices closed early as it's Friday.

Is it me or is there something wrong with this picture. . . go to the ER to get pain meds, it's okay if they give them to me but not okay for him or the neurologist to write a script for them.:confused::confused: and frustrated.

I feel like I'm in an Abbott & Costello routine because both docs keep going round and round saying, "I don't know." WTF??? They sound like when Bill Cosby in his "Himself" routine asks his "brain damaged" kids why they did something, the reply, "I don't know!" At least I can laugh about that.

I can't tell you how many times in the past three weeks from three different doctors I've heard, "I don't know." That's almost as bad as them saying, "you're going to die."

Stopped taking Metaphorman yesterday as advised but can't start Lantus shots until this evening. In the meantime, blood sugar is through the roof! WTF???

That enough for now as I'm getting frustrated and angry reliving this BS!!!

After all this whinning and b*tching I thought I'd share this.

IT'S FRIGGIN GONE!!!:D:D:D:cool: I don't want to jump the gun here but since I went back to bed at 8:45 this morning and woke up around 11:00 the headache is gone. This is the first time in 2 months I haven't felt that horrible pain. It looks like the Metaphormin, which I've been telling the doctor for 6 weeks is what I think is causing the pain, was the culprit!!!!

The last dose I took was yesterday moring at 4:00 AM and it seems to out of my system. I'm absolutely elated!!!! No more laying in bed to quell the pain, no more avoiding lights, no more codeine, no more tests (at least not of my head), no more dealing with a neurologist who charges $300 per visit, no more fear & anxiety over it, no more blurred vision, eye pain, cheek pain, jaw pain, neck pain, no more loosing my balance, no more not being able to drive . . . NO MORE NOTHING!!! Even my throat is better from using that swish and swallow medicine.

Boy, oh boy am I a happy camper. So far, what a great ending to a miserable week well 2 miserable months.

This is awesome. Now I hope it stays this way.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Glad you're on the mend, Joe.

Is it Metformin that you're refering to? I've taken that for some time, but haven't experienced any symptoms like yours. However, when it was first prescribed, they dosed me based on non-fasting bloodwork. I was taking about 5x what I really needed! No headaches. I just felt pissed off and ready to rumble all the time ("Incredible Hulk" syndrome.) That all passed with the correct dosage.

Metformin, correct spelling Mike! I was max'd out on it 750 time released mg three times per day. As soon a I started taking it two months ago I started with the headaches and kept telling the docs that I thought that's what was causing the headaches, well they will believe me now.

Now I just took a six day pack of prednisone last week and THAT made me feel pissed off and ready to rumble as well as homicidal!

I've been on Meformin (500 mg X 2 daily for Type I) for 3 years now with no side effects. Watch out for Prednisone. Long term usage of that stuff eats holes in your bones. My wife is on it and got brittle bones from taking it. One side effect, is it leaches the calcium from the bones so you need to take calcium suppliments.

Yeah I hear you Bro but metaformin doesn't like me! As far as the prednisone goes, that was the neuologist trying his hand at killing the headaches. Believe me I protested vigorously because I had to take it once before for two weeks for a bad case of bronchitis and almost killed someone in a steriod rage. I stay far, far away from that crap but I was in so much pain that I would have tried anything. My cousin has to go on mega doses of it because he has severe life threatening asthma but he just doesn't get the rage from it. Actually he had to quit performing surgery (he's a doctor) because that crap had his hands shaking so bad.

Thanks Stu, thus far DAY TWO without the headache. It looks like the Metaformin definitely was the culprit but won't be sure until I have more pain free days under my belt.:)
