Same here lol. I'd rather get this then (a while back it was only $79.99, maybe it will go back to that price):

$65 for a recertified Denon with 1 year warranty still not a bad deal, no?I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
HDMI is only v. 1.1, which doesn't matter all that much for SACD play but could be something to keep in mind if you plan on using it for it's upscaling capabilities."Dr Dunn admitted that his research could also be interpreted as evidence that women are shallower than men. He said: "Let's face it - there's evidence to support it."Best Buy is for people who don't know any better. Magnolia is for people who don't know any better and have more money to spend.

Not a real good deal. I got a DVD-758 and a DVD-1940ci last summer for $78 each, brand new. They were available on closeout for about 8 months at that price. -

For those who prefer another low cost SACD option, you may want to consider the refurbished 5 disc Sony SCD-CE595 CD/SACD changer for $60.00 directly from Sony. This changer has no video capability and is "blessed" with custom Burr-Brown DACs. -

That was at Vanns.com, right? I remember them being $99.00 shipped. -

I'm likely going to grab that Yammy or something similar if someone lets me know of a better deal. I don't have a good source right now, and for what it is I think a universal cd/sacd player will be nice; never heard an SACD before. 24 bit burr brown DACs is nice, and that way I can relinquish my xbox360 of dvd playing duty, which it probably isn't the best at anyways. Reviews say the audio is the strong suite of this Yammy; anyone hear use a universal player as an audio source? Positive results?- Jeremy

I like my Yammy S1800 and I'm pretty sure Keiko likes his as well. It plays SACDS great, but you have to use the analog outs for SACD, which means you can't use an External DAC for SACD, but the internal DAC is pretty good. You can however do redbook CD digital out, if you want to use an external DAC, I don't have any DVD-A so I can't say how that sounds. I use it currently as my main Audiosource and occaisional DVD use until i save up for a Squeezebox Touch and External HDDMain 2ch -

For the record...SACD can't be sent over coax or optical. You have to use the analog outs for SACD on any player...unless it can send DSD over HDMI.
Very few external DAC's are capable of decoding SACD as well...and the few that can are pretty pricey. The nirvana inducer-

Same can also be said of HT receivers that can decode DSD. -

some can send via firewire 1394 connection or like my denon through the "Denonlink" it's all kept in the digital domain until the speaker outputs -
So is there any sacd players that can pass the signal over hdmi?
Is that Denon DVD-758 plastic on the faceplate ?? -
polkfarmboy wrote: »So is there any sacd players that can pass the signal over hdmi?
There're a number of SACD-capable players that can send the native DSD datastream using HDMI....Onkyo DV-SP506, Oppo 80 and 83 (also 980), Sony's new 3 Blu-ray players (starting at $180.00), etc. -
where does it say that it has burr brown dac?? i did not see this in the specs published on the website.HT:

This thing also plays DVD-A; I think I might have found my new source.- Jeremy

No, the 758 was from J&R and the 1940ci's (I actually got three, some for friends) were from 6th St. electronics. Both models were purchased through Amazon for $78 and free shipping. -

No, it's anodized aluminum. -

Eduardo is not talking about the Yammie 1800 but about the Sony CE595...there is no visible information available on Sony's site that provides 'any' info about what DACs it actually uses. It would seem unlikely that at about 150 dollars or so that it would use Burr Browns? The normal price of the Yamaha is at least TWICE that.

I think the Denon 1940ci can play SACD via HDMI, but don't hold me to that. Maybe William can confirm. Dakmart has refurbs with a one year warranty for just under 70.00 + 23.54 shipping. IIRC, Pioneer had one in their Elite line that could a year or so ago that was bargain priced.

The Denon's don't pass SACD over HDMI, but you're right about the Pioneer. My DV-48AV passes SACD over HDMI, and so does the newer DV49-AV. Both are pretty hard to find these days. -

Denon does pass SACD over HDMI. My 3910 does as i suspect the later models 2930 and on will also. Once Sony started about the time my 3910 was built I believe all the rest followed as it was Sony that held all this up. It would also be advisable to buy a Denon from their authorized E-tailer's because if you don't you will not have it serviced under warranty if anything should go wrong with the unit. They are very serious about this. -

Sorry, if you are using HDMI, all you are getting is the CD layer, not the SACD layer. That goes for all Denon models ever made. Here's the page from the 3910 manual, which states only CD layer PCM over HDMI. -
Sony products have always been a wash for me. Everything I've owned from Sony has had reliability issues.
I have a SCD-CE595 (refurb) and the first one was a dud but the second has lasted a year with constant use with no problems. Plus with sony's replacement plan (or a squaretrade warranty) you should be covered. Though I do not know what dacs it uses it sounds quite nice. There are a number of write-ups on various forums referring to it as an incredible value. I only listen in 2 channel, and only have a few sacds, but redbook cds sound warm and detailed. For the Sony direct price its a steal especially with free shipping. I might pick one up for the bedroom...

I got my Sony 595 when it hit the market. For those interested in it, here's my $.02....
Good
- Excellent sound quality, especially with SACD
- Kind of a given, 5 disc capability
- Easy to operate....no adjustment with video
Not so good
- No direct track access on remote
- Painfully slow when changing disc
- No dedicate L/R stereo analog outputs
- No headphone output
The Sony 595 is one of those rare inexpensive component that punches way above its weight class....even at its MSRP.
