Just want to vent...

Bought a pair of B&W speakers from UK (ebay)... Beautiful special edition CDM1 in cherry.

The guy put 1/4" of foam on the sides and 2" of foam on top. Nothing on the bottom, nothing between the speakers. $170 for shipping... No problems, right?

The speakers are destroyed. One is cracked, the other has a locked-up driver. I am at a loss of words.

thats the bad thing about shipping. If the person who sends it does a bad job the item in question is almost always damaged.
Hopefully you can get your money back painlessly.

Really sorry to hear your misfortune, especially when it happens to a set of beautiful speakers. It's almost impossible to send a set without the original packaging, to survive the journey. Hope you'll get your money back either through the seller or insurance.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Sorry for your misfortune in having a clueless seller pack your stuff badly.
Ebay should cover the cost and shipping. I've never had to use that service.
Can you let us know how they back you up?
    Thanks

I have filed a dispute via PayPal. PayPal basically lets you settle with the seller on a certain amount of money (up to full amount). I most likely won't get all my money back, but I hope the seller will be honest enough to refund at least a part :(.
I won't be able to send the speakers back... the shipping costs are crazy.

Does anybody know if it's possible to "unlock" the stuck driver? and how?

What was the difficulty in buying a loudspeaker where you live?
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

That's terrible to read ViperZ. You're high end shops are pretty far and few up there correct?

Doro, I am specifically looking for bookshelf speakers from CDM series. Since they are older, the only way to get them would be to find a trade-in at the store or buy it used. We have 5 B&W authorized dealers in the city and none had what I wanted.

    It is very unfortunate.

Had I known... I would have gladly helped you locate B & W speakers
    here in the USA.

I would be interested how you are able to "recoup" your investment ??
    Possibly insured ?

    Considered rebuilding or restoring them.
Seeing some work of the craftsmen on the forum restore early polks is incredible...

That sucks , the CDM1nt's are awesome bookshelf speakers. I have Installed them many many time with and without their stands. I love em.

I'm wondering if you can get a new cabinet for the cracked one and a driver for the other . Get the money from the seller or paypal and keep the broken speakers. Maybe with the money you can repair them. They are worth the effort.

Good luck and I'm sorry for your misfortune.

After playing with the speaker, I unlocked the stuck driver. I guess I got very "lucky" there. Actually, I did... Looks like the screws got slightly undone and the diffuser got undone a lot - the result was that the cone was touching the diffuser and didn't move. I put the diffuser back in place, put the speaker back in the cabinet, and it's moving fine now.

I haven't received anything from the seller yet, but I will give him a couple of days to respond to be fair.

Jim, unfortunately CDM1-SE are much better than DM220 =P.

The crack in the speaker surprisingly does not go all the way - most likely just the veneer or a bit deeper. I'll try to hook them up tonight.

The speakers are also missing jumpers in the back, so if someone has a decent set of jumper wires for sale, please PM me.

Sorry to hear....but man,I have to question your thoughts on shipping from Europe. Unless it was the manufacturer themselves,I know I would not take that risk. Hopefully you can recover most of your coin and move on.
