Ok. i did this for the hell of it.... to find out where i stand. I know that I have some extra pounds on me.. no doubt about that.

This simple little test will let you know if you are below, average, or overweight.

Don't take it if you are depressed or suicidal.

body mass index test

FIY. I placed in the overweight category. UGH!

    35.1

    Man, I'm a freakin pig.

    Cheers,
Russ "I'm not fat, I'm just big-boned" Gates

(seriously, you have to take those calculations with a grain of salt, by 'the chart' for my height, it 'says' I should weigh about 185. I would look like I was on crack if I weighed 200, much less 185.)

I've heard that crack is a good way to help you lose weight.

I was 29.5 myself.. but i know i can never reach my ideal weight according to my height on those charts.. i should be about 145 to 155lbs. That I think is to thin myself.

Russ you're more of a man than i'll ever be. Like you said... we're just big boned guys. :p

If a 28 means I have to quit drinking beer you can forget it!!!

I'm 38, overweight, drink beer and smoke and am destined to leave a fat and cancerous corps... BUT AT LEAST I'M HAVING FUN!

Hard to see much value in it

For my height, 6'1", the bottom "normal" BMI of 18.5 means I'd weigh 140! That's stick skinny.

100% agreed... they'll have to pull my keg handle out of my cold dead (drunk) fingers. I don't live to work, I work to enjoy life. Which means beer!

    28.

The way to honestly determine if you're "big boned" is to do a quick frame size test. To determine your frame type, place your thumb and middle fingers around the wrist of the other hand. If the thumb and index fingers overlap you have small frame. If the thumb and index finger just touch you have a medium frame, and if they do not reach you have a large frame. Generally, if you're a large frame, you should add about 10% to the recommended you're ideal weight for you're height. If you're small framed, you should subtract 10%. Another cool website is the Health Forumulas & Calculators

EDIT: It should be middle finger and thumb... not index finger and thumb.

    Hmmm... 26...

My recollection is the BMI is a measure for the general population.

Muscular athletes will tend to have higher BMI's because of the higher muscular mass to height.

Given that Club Polk members are notorious for moving and repositioning our HEAVY speakers during our frequent tweaking sessions, it's caused us to acquire a very svelte and athletic frame and BMI results don't really apply to us...

Well, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it. :)

    regards

Hm...at 38 years of age too no doubt.... it's never too late. Hardest part is making the commitment. The rest is easy. I recently lost 30# over a 6 month period. I cut out the junk food, and jogged 2-3 miles a day, 3-4 times a week. Currently I'm sitting at 190 and happy. I could use to lose a few more pounds. It'll be a goal I set for myself again in the near future.
