Need advice on receiver purchase for SDA 2 speakers

Options
I acquired a pair of SDA 2 speakers from a family friend many years ago and have now just got around to becoming interested in them. From what I have read, they are great vintage speakers. But here's my problem. I don't have a receiver for them. I've been looking at my local Best Buy Magnolia store at mid level receivers but I have no clue what I'm looking at. And neither do the employees there it seems. Does anyone have any recommendations for a receiver for me. I'm looking to spend around a thousand dollars max. I'm interested in modern receiver's for the wireless features they have compared to vintage receivers. Any help / advice will be greatly appreciated!
My current setup:
- Yamaha Aventage 9.2 channel 1260 Watt receiver; model RX-A2050BL
- Pair of Polk SDA 2B speakers

You're also going to need a source and cables. Do you have the interconnect cable for the SDA's? Do you already have CD's or what are you going to play on them?

I ordered an interconnect cable for them off eBay yesterday. As far as use, I'm hoping to use them as my home theatre speakers (TV, movies, music, etc.) and add on them in the future. Is this practical?

From what I understand, the source would be the receiver. Is that correct?

Where are you going to get the music? CD's? Records? Files? Streaming? SACD?

Are you certain you got the correct interconnect? Are those pin/blade or blade/blade?

That's a blade/blade cable, what about the back of the speakers? Do you have a picture of the back of the speakers, just a little lower than the one you already posted showing the speaker and IC terminals?

Music will be mostly from streaming. But I have a ton of cds in storage I'd like to hear again. And I'm not opposed to also getting a record player in the future. I'm 30, making these speakers about as old as I am.

Also, it looks like the sides are splitting away. Press in and hold the passive radiator (the bigger one on the bottom) with your fingers and watch the smaller 6.5" drivers move out. While continuing to hold the passive radiator in how long does it take the smaller drivers to go back to their original position? Do this on both speakers.

I'm at work right now. Just happened to take these pics the other day. I'll check them when I get home. How long should it take? And what are you seeing?

The very first picture you posted, both sides on the top look like they're separating from the speaker. The passive radiator press test will check if they're still air tight. They should take 3-5 seconds or so to return to normal after pressing, if they go back down right away the cabinets aren't air tight anymore.

Prior to choosing a Reciever it would be important to know which SDAs you have. They could be 2As or early 2Bs both sound and look very similar however one version is electrically different from the other. To know for sure we would need a picture of the crossover. It is located behind the large passive radiator, carefully remove all the screws and then gently remove the PR. Once the PR is out you may find the white polyfil has fallen that would need to be pushed back up above the crossovers. A look at the crossover will help.

They both appeared to pass this test. Took 3 or 4 seconds to return to their normal position.

Ok great you have SDA 2Bs early version. They are a little easier to drive than 2As and offer you some less expensive upgrade options as well. If you choose that is, others will chime in.

Try to save the gaskets, as long as they are not torn you can re use them. As for a reciever I like Yamaha Aventage series or Pioneer Elite on this forum they are refered as AVRs or audio video receivers.
