  • Aint that the truth. I would have gone with a tube set if I had the space for it. The wife ultimately drove the decision. I wanted a new TV and she wanted space savings. Well DLP may not be perfect like CRT but Im happy with it and I enjoy it everyday.
  • Oh one more thing. About the previous post concerning the positives of CRT TV's. I am not sure of direct view CRT but I can ASSURE you that blockiness is very present on CRT RPTV's with certain HD channels. This has nothing to do with the TV itself but with the compression ratio of the HD network. The same channels that…
  • Well heres my take on DLP... I purchased an RCA 50in dlp a couple of months back and overall I am very impressed. I also got the tv at a monster deal so I couldnt pass it up. The picture quality is fantastic although like a previous post said there is some video noise in the picture. I spent a lot of time comparing the…
  • Your right. DLP and LCD do not burn in. Also the rainbow effect( which I have never seen) has supposedly been fixed with the use of more color wheels or something like that. With my DLP TV I can even see video distortions on some HD channels. Take Discovery HD, many times in low light scenes the picture becomes grainy, but…
  • What exactly is black crush?
  • The 931 uses the Faroudja chip as well. HD 931 specs
  • My dlp tv with the built in tuner was almost a grand less than the Samsung 42" inch without the tuner built-in (huge circuit city fathers day sale), so I dont think I wasted my money at all either way:)

  • The ability to pick up local channels in HD with my built in tuner has been phenominal. My cable service does not currently offer HD and I havent decided to go for satellite yet. So instead I watch local channels in HD completely free, which to me is worth having a built in decoder.

  • So I can subscribe to HD programming from my cable provider and use the built in tuner instead of the cable providers own box? That makes sense. Thanks everyone for the replies. I think I got it figured out now.

  • Thanks for the reply but according to the manual for my HDTV: "You HDTV"S tuner is ready for digital cable(no need for a cable box to view unscrambled, digital cable programming.) The tuner is able to decode all 16 formats of digital television broadcasts and it can interpret digital cable signals because it includes the…

  • That explains why the All - Star game doesnt look as good as it should.
  • There are games that only support dd 5.1 during cut scenes. Metal Gear Solid is a prime example. I dont know about Madden 04 though. There are games that do support DTS during actual gameplay.
  • I can update my software directly through the internet, but no upgrades have been released. Maybe this will be fixed with next update.

  • As a matter of fact you can use the optical out for games also. You need to make sure you enable it in the setup menu. There are however a few games that are using DTS audio with utilizing 4.1 sound. SSX Tricky is one that I know of off hand.
  • One last question. Does anyone know why the upconverted 480i signal gets very pixelated during fast moving scenes? It is a drawback of the television or the broadcast. It does not happen at all with DVD movies and I also havent noticed it with actual high definition. Has anyone else noticed this?

  • Unfortunately I live in an apartment right now so I cant do that just yet..but soon I will. I stated my original statement wrong. I understand the complete differences between all the different HD resolutions. What I meant is that the broadcast said it was 1080i, which would be 720p for my set yet it did not look…

  • I watched bicentennial man last night and then CSI Miami tonght. All I can saw is WOW!!! What a phenomenal picture. Did you calibrate yourself using the AVIA disc or have a technician do it?

  • I got the 50 inch. I think the picture was about the same, although like I said the RCA is a brighter picture. And for 1500 less it makes the RCA pic even better.:D Anyway currently I am watching golf on nbc. Its channel 5-1 here in Dallas. The info screen says the incoming signal is 1080i but I have no idea if its true…

  • I got caught playing paintball in it over in farmers branch. Oh well. Thanks agian for the tip
  • Just to clarify you used nothing but L brackets right? Did you also use a board as a shelf or did you just lay the csi across the brackets.
  • I know its off topic but how about that storm today? Anyway thanks I think that is what I am going to do.
  • I personally use Pinnacles Instant CD/DVD software with DVD Decrypter. Most software sees the encryption on the DVD and will not let you make a backup of it. Using DVD Decrypter you rip it to your harddrive first which removes the encryption. Instant CD/DVD allows you to preserve a full movie on a single DVD-r. You can do…
  • To me audio wise they both sound the same. I did encounter a problem with coax that made me switch to fiber. For some reason when I had my system hooked up with the digital coax, my audio would disapear whenever a light switch was turned on or off in my apartment. This never happened in my old apartment but it was…
  • Optical Cable is susceptible to signal loss through extrinsic and intrinsic loss. Basically the fiber cable is lined with a highly reflective material, usually glass or highly reflective plastic. When the light is sent through the line it is possible that some light is reflected back to the source bacause of the fiber line…
  • Being new to the Dallas area, one of the first things I heard of was the big heroin problem in Plano. I guess with all that money they need to spend it on something.
  • Oh yeah, the 121 construction is going full steam ahead. Definitely making traffic on 35 crap during the day.
  • Yes!!!! I had no idea that a new Fry's opened up in Plano. I no longer have to travel to Garland or Las Colinas to go to Fry's? Well I think the one in Las Colinas is still closer(off of LBJ and Mcarthur blvd). That one just opened up this past summer.
  • If your receiver does HDCD decoding, do you also need a HDCD player to listen to an HDCD encoded disc?

  • I guess my next question is if there are any receivers that currently have a rear center speaker connection or are all 6.1 audio systems set up with the rear center coming from either the surround back right or left?
  • One thing to make sure of when hooking these up is to keep the binding plate installed and run your speaker wire to the top inputs. I tried multiple ways of hooking these up such as the sub off of my AVR preouts and even running it from the lfe out of my receiver. These are what got me questioning my decision in the first…
