was wondering how much differnce there is quality wise btwn hd and bluray. with hd discs on clearance everywhere and the availability of used hd players i can be spending a heck of a lot less then a bluray player that will work with my outlaw 950.

there is not much difference between the two. but HD DVD's are no longer being produced... so finding movies to watch once you've purchased or watched all of them is going to suck.

you'd be safer going with Blu Ray.. it's going to be around for a long time.

I'd go with a Blu-ray myself. Like Danger Boy said...HD DVD's aren't being produced anymore...so once you're done snagging up all the deals that are out there...that'll be it. They won't be making any more of them.

What you could do is get a player that will play both Blu-ray and HD DVD, and you'd still be able to snag up some of those deals on HD discs. I know LG makes a player that will play both...and I wanna say Pioneer does too...I'm not positive though.

yeah, as said before, quality is nearly the same, and no new HD-DVD's are being produced. But if you're on a budget and don't already have an upscaling dvd player, some of those old hd-dvd players are great for that purpose, plus you get to play cheap hd-dvd's all for a pretty good price.

you can also check out some sites like highdefdigest.com to find a list of movies on both formats and see if the existing collection of hd-dvd's would be worth it to you.

I was able to do a shoot out between with Superman Returns as it was released on both formats side by side. I had 2 Pioneer Elite 50 inch, 1 Elite Blu and Toshiba HD players and the Blu ray looked like a cleaner transfer. Not by much, it was not night and day. The sound seemed almost the same as well. Without having one or the other there, you would have been happy either way.
The problem now is HD is not made anymore so even if it was better( I only judged it with one disc) it doesn't matter now.
