New Surround System for X-MAS!!!

Well i finally got my wife to let me play a lil and put together a system for the living room in the new house and was wanting to get some opinions on the setup that i put together........... I started out by finding a killer deal on a Polk CS2 center channel from circuitcity for $100, i then bid on a set of Polk Monitor 60s and a set of Monitor 40s for my left and right front and rear. Then i waited around and found a website where i could get PSW10 subwoofers for $100ea. w/free s&h so i went ahead and bought a pair of those. And last i found me a Pioneer VSX-918V-K 5.1 Receiver for a clean $250. I got everything in place except for the subwoofers (wifey's makin me wait till christmas to open them up) but the way that i have my speakers set up, i ended up having to put the 40s up front beside my VIZIO 47" LCD with the CS2 sittin right below the tv and the 60s in the rear on each side of my couch. I found a set of black end tables that have storage underneath where the subwoofers will fit perfectly so i put one of those on each side of the tv, put the bookshelfs on top of them and the living room is open with the kitchen and the whole area is 14' x 29' with 9' ceiling heights and a trey ceiling that goes up to 10' over the living room area.
I was just wanting to get some opinions on this as to if i went overboard or what. I've had surround sound systems before but the most i ever had was the system in the box with a DVD player and the speakers would be as big as a 20 oz bottle and maybe a 6 1/2" - 8" sub in a box. just wanting to know if it's gonna be like night and day to what i've had in the past or what

It will sound better if you use the bigger 60s as part of your front stage and use the 40s as surrounds. Just a suggestion. A blow a small ht in the box away.

well that really isn't an option for me considering i don't want to try to find a 12" deep shelf to fit them monitor 40s on and it's a lot easier to just sit the 60s on the floor in the rear. Besides, the 40s have already got 2 - 5 1/4"s and a 1" tweeter themselves, so them along with the CS2 should put out quite a bit of sound for the front

Well...you obviously have to work around the layout in your room. But as said earlier, you're sound would be a lot better with the 60's in the front. The 60's are 3 way speakers, where as the 40's are 2 way speakers. The 60's have seperate crossovers that send bass frequencies to the bottom woofer, and mids to the top woofers, and highs to the tweeters. The 40's, being just a 2 way speaker aren't getting as much of the bass effects as the 60's, because they don't have a dedicated driver for bass frequencies. So the 60's aren't going to be blending with the subs as well as they would if they were in front.
If speaker location is really a problem though, look into some wall mounts. B-tech makes a nice wall mount for bookshelf speakers, that doesn't require **** into the cabinet, and will support up to 55 lbs. Other than that though, sounds like a pretty good setup. You should be pretty happy with it. I'm looking to buy a similar speaker setup in the near future myself.The nirvana inducer-

madupree326 Welcome to Club Polk. Congrats on the Xmas present to yourself and such an understanding wife. That's important in this hobby!;) If possible try to utilize what others have told you. What if you were to take the end tables and subs to the rear, and put the 40's on top of them in the rear? It could add a little difficulty to getting the subs to blend well (getting good bass without being able to tell where it is located) but with some effort I think it could be done. What do you plan on getting for subs? If you can't get them to sound good with that configuration then go with your original plan. The lower freq. resp. on the 40 isn't too much above the 60's so if you do need to go with your original layout, the MCACC will probably be able to adjust the gains and get it sounding ok. I've heard the MCACC is pretty good.
