Using a 84 with a tri-pod sitting Mic at ear level at sweet spot. I also shut of all ceiling fans and any noise in the room, stand out of room and hit go. Just beautiful I couldn't ever match it so well if done myself, one of the strong points of Pioneer IMHO.
I did all that too. Tripod, no ac etc...I do have a huge room. Maybe that has something to do with it.Sharp Elite 70

I had an Elite 81 model running Martin Logan Clarity speakers and switched to my old Lexicon MC1 and Atlantic Technology a2000 amp (7x125 watts). The Lexicon and AT amp blew the Elite receiver out of the water. The Elite I have is a lower end receiver, but I still believe quality seperates are the way to go. To be far, I have never owned a $1500 plus receiver and the Lexicon, although old, is one hell of a processor.

Hey Dan,
Love the thread. I've got a few questions about an Elite model. I'm planning to get the new entry level Elite. I think it's the 01-XTH or something. I'm planning to get it because I'm going to start a fresh HT.
So my question is, how would that receiver sound with Polk's new OWM 3 speakers? I'm thinking about getting 6 of those and use my PSW650 sub. Is the receiver overkill? I really want it because it's THX Ultra2 and I want the auto calibration. I'm stuck on the OWM because the new HT will be together with my 2ch set up. The 2ch set up will remain there so the speakers have to be small and I have to mount them on the wall. Do you think a system like this will reach reference level spl?
Thanks -
the 01 is a great receiver also, if you can spare it in the budget I'd go with the 92 or 94 which was last yrs flagship models and can be had right around the same price as the 01. Overkill, hardly. You'll be fine with either model. I have listened to all of them while doing my homework and they all sound outstanding. The only one I have yet to hear or see is the king of the hill: the SC09.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Hey, I've got an install question that you might have run into:
So, my friend has a Pioneer plasma with an SR+ jack. I've read that the SR protocol is basically a flavor of IR- what i want to do is use the SR output to feed into a Xantech distribution system. In other words, use TV as an IR detector. I can go the other direction (control the TV w/ xantech via a 794), but haven't been able to figure out if I can get the IR signals out of the TV.
The problem is that we're getting some major IR interference from the plasma- even when using plasma-proof detectors, so I figured what better detector than the one in the TV?Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

Great advise. I don't think the 01 is overkill. Pioneer Elite and polk 8 ohm speakers go together very well. I enjoy every polk/elite Install I do.
Looking for a 92 or 94 is excellent. You can get a killer still up to date receiver for less.
Good luck with your new HT,

Niles makes a plasma proof "detector" Ir sensor that works great. I have used it many times with no problems. Basically it has a "blue" filter which is where to plasma interference comes in. Now using the tv as a sensor I have not used along with a Ir repeater system. It's something you can try as the Pioner Sr system works basically the same way. It should pass any IR signal to your Ir system. If it doesn't work, Buy the Niles Sensor. Its cheap enough.

I need to order something since my 7100ES wont pass 1080p.
I believe the 7100ES will pass 1080P. Howver, it will not decode the latest surround sound formats. Go to this site for any Sony questions.

yep, Im a member there already, and I can promise you mine wouldnt pass it. Supposedly there was a possible way to do a board exchange in order to make it work, however that was only offered in Europe. Its bit too late anyway, I'm so content with my SC07 purchase I wont even look back. The new audio codecs sound freaking amazing decoded on the Elite.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

I bet the new Pioneers are great.
I feel Sony made a major mistake by dropping the digital amp design. With the 7100ES they fixed the problems thay had with the X000ES line of digital amps. As a 3000ES and 5000ES owner I am well aware of those isues. When I received my 7100ES I was impressed with the build quality and performance of it. It ran 4 LSi15s and an LSiC without any issues.
Currently, I am using it as a pre-amp connected to a Sunfire TGA-5400, and it works great. I will not be going to Blu-Ray for at least another year since the 7100ES used with a 9100ES DVD/SACD player connected via Ilink has both an excellent picture and sound.
Hopefully by then there will be a large number of pre-amps from all the manufacturers that handle all the latest video and souind standards.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Dan and Sherardp,
Thanks for the help. I understand that the older models can be had at the same price but I'm planning to look for a dealer that sell both Polk and Pioneer. That way I'm hoping I can get a good price as a package deal.
I've been out of the HT game for a long time and I'm just starting to catch up now. Still learning about DD HD and stuff. I'm very excited and hope to have the system complete by late Dec. I noticed that the prices for great quality receivers these days just keep going down. I remember a time when the cheapest Elite receivers were over 1k.
Oh yeah, I'm still wondering if the system would be able to pull off reference level spl? I'm asking this because it seems the OWM3 are very small. I think they only use 4.5" woofers. -
^ Organ set all your speakers to small in your receiver, get the biggest baddest sub you can afford, SVS/Epik/Ed are a few common ones on the board and you'll be perfectly ok with reference level material. Depending on how you calibrate, reference is pretty darn loud. But in any event, you'll be fine.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Sherardp,
Thanks again. I was planning to get new subs for the 2ch set up but decided to get a HT instead. I will be using my PSW650. I'm currently using the 2ch system right now for HT. The psw650 is pretty bad ****. I'm sure it's not as powerful as the others you mentioned, but I feel it is sufficient for now (until the next upgrade bug bites). -
Bought the 01 two weeks ago and this is a major upgrade over my Yamaha 1400. My setup sound great with this amp, way better than the Yam.________________

For the simple two-channel world what do you'all think of the Pioneer Elite SX-A6-J for a home office setup (RTi8's, a CD and USB DAC from my PC for input). A basic stereo without any need for a second set of speakers or more inputs.
I have seen only one professional review which is at Playback Mag at http://magazine.playbackmag.net/playback/200808/?pg=225 -

I agree this thing is awesome, I like it. I ran the MCACC then went in and tweaked everything with the SPL meter. The sound is mind blowing. I think its an excellent piece for the price. System config is in my sig line, but Im running a full Rti setup(12s, Csi5, Fxi3s, 4s and dual SVS PB12/plus 2 subs) I have to admit it is amazing, my Sony 7100ES performed very well, however the Elite sounds better. More dynamic and clear. Even with music, it makes you feel like youre in a live performance. Very happy.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Thanks Dan. No Tweeter here in Canada. I found a dealer downtown selling the 01 for $799 CDN (that's the retail I believe). So I'm still gonna try to bargain. But problem is, they don't sell Polk. I'm gonna search for a dealer that sell both Polk and Pioneer.
I'll let you know how it goes when I get the system up and running. I'll post a thread here w/pics. I should have the money to get them by late Dec. -

When I initially installed the SC-07 I ran my setup off of it shortly just to see what it sound like. And I have zero doubts that the Pio could handle the load. However since I do have the D-Sonic IceAmps and the Outlaw Monos, I just went ahead stuck with them in my setup, if that makes since. The D-Sonic 1000S I have gives me 525 watts x2 to the Rti12s, the Elite cant give me that.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!
