Was flipping through the service mode on my TV, and noticed the following things about the Audio section of the codes:
The default settings from the factory tend to push bass WAY too much and have an upper mid-frequency "glare." I don't know if this is so that the TVs sound louder in showrooms or what, but it definitely isn't accurate sound.
What I did was reduce MIDL to 4, SBAS to 6, and STRE to 10. The factory settings had the BAS (bass) and SBAS (sub-bass) settings cranked near max, so the bass was much too loud. Now I'm not sure if this affects every Sony TV, but if you use the built-in sound the aforementioned settings sound much more accurate and less boomy.
This helps a lot even if you have an AVR attached to the TV, as the TV's internal EQ affects audio out too. So for those with Sony TV sets and are experienced with the service menu, I would recommend lowering the bass and MIDL settings for more natural sound!

not too many users have access to the service menu of a display device. I would not recommend users going in there as they could really mess up the set if they do not know what they are doing.

Regardless, it's good information and especially the part about the line output being affected also. That is certainly another reason to run your audio directly to the receiver if at all possible.Sony 60'' SXRD 1080p

Well, for those of us that use the built-in HD tuner or a CableCARD, the only way to get audio out of the TV is through the line-out connector. But I do have my DVDP and other sources run directly to the receiver.polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves
