Should i add a Dvdo VP50Pro?

Regarding the gear in my signature, would u see much benefit to adding? Im in process of building my theatre and have some extra funds available and was considering purchasing. I know it would help upconvert my bell receiver from 1080i to 1080p, but the rest of my system is already 1080p. Any other nice features i should be aware of that im not understanding?

    I think it would make a very noticeable difference, even with 1080p sources. I would wait, however, to see if DVDO adds another higher end processor at CEDIA Expo in a couple weeks. I don't think they will, but you never know.

    The VP50pro is an excellent component. Even JVC recommends offers a re-badged version of it specifically for their projectors.

    With a CRT projector I didn't notice much benefit from upscaling, but with the newer digitals (like the JVC RS1 and RS2) a good scaler would improve the picture tremendously.

    With my Epson 1080 UB, I've tried upscaling with my HTPC vs. direct to the projector, and external scaling makes a BIG difference! So go for it!

    Thanks guys, pretty sure reading posts over the last week here has cost me atleast 10 grand lol. I'll post pics with theatre completed when its all done.

    I would opt for teh Lumagen Radience XP (I think)... It offers CMS to accurately set your color balance accurately which the DVDO does not have...

    The Lumagen Radiance XD is a good processor. However, I prefer the DVDO VP50 (just personal preference)...

    You can't go wrong with either one though.

    my experience is that DVDO is a bit buggier than the Lumagen... The DVDO is easier to setup but the flexibility of the Lumagen breeeds complexity (i.e. it's a bit harder to use)... IMHO, color management system (CMS) is a must... especially when so many displays are not color accurate out of the box and they do not have the ability to correct the inaccuracies internally... My JVC RS-1, the RS-2 comes to mind... beautiful picture but the greens are limey and the reds are orangy... fleshtones are too red and cannot be corrected.

    I've never even remotely considered a outboard video processor, way out of my price range, that is until I found the DVDO Edge. Amazon has them $699 right now. its got me very interested.

    The edge may be okay, as I'll see next week, but the VP50 by itself is definitely worth the money for anything larger than a 50" tv at 6-8ft away. Anything larder than 110" would be even more benefited by the VP50pro.
