Can someone please suggest a good TV to buy from Ebay or other used store.

Here are my minimum specs..

Must be….
- Plasma with great contrast ratio
- Good color and smooth motion
- Accept 1080i and 720p via hdmi with a good processor
- At least 24 inches. No larger than 46 inches
- Around $1,000 or under.

I know there was this one model that everyone was raving about a couple years ago. Anyone remember what it was?

If your going the plasma route, Panasonics are the best value for the price range your looking at.

720p? For $1,000 I'd go with a new LCD Samsung, LG, etc.

A good 720p plasma will blow many 1080p lcds out the water. Check out Pioneers 720p plasmas like:

fyi: From a <12ft viewing distance and a display under 50" the eye cant tell the difference in quality between a 720p and 1080p

With the OP wanting <46" 1080p is useless. Don't get me wrong, if he can afford a 1080p then why not. But since he is on a budget, he should maximize what he can.

I don't recommend buying a used flat panel like that.
The prices on new models are dropping significantly every year while the TVs are getting better and better.

I'd go for a brand new Panasonic plasma. Prices are cheaper than you think. A 42" model falls right at your price.

At the 42" size, you really don't get any benefit from 1080p,

for just 300 bucks more check out the Sony Bravia 40V4100, I just bought two out here for 1071 bucks. However you maybe able to find them cheaper there in the US. Very nice screen, a very slick menu with all the controls you can imagine, tons of connections, etc. Worth a look.

The only problem with those is that you can't find them anymore.

I bought the last 4280 and 5080 in the area, and they have both been almost non-existent for at least 2 months now. FWIW, my 5080 was on the wall at Best Buy for over a year, and it still looks spectacular.

For under a grand, I'd go with one of the Panasonic 42" plasma choices in the 720p range. As mentioned, until you get to a larger screen, you can't notice much of a difference.

And just for a comparison, the 37" LG LCD I've got in the bedroom looks like flung poo compared to the Pioneer.

Stick with the panasonic Plasma's that were posted. Also check fry's.com they always have great deals on them.

Problem with Sony Bravia LCD's is the motion blur. Its so bad on alot of the sets. Just go to your local B&M stores and check them out.

I have yet to see it personally or sparklies.

1). Pioneer Kuro. You can pick up PDP-5080 (1080i) for less than $1900. (looks like it's out of your price range).

2). Panasonic plasmas. Can get 1080p for ~1800-1900 here in Canada. 1080i ones go for 1200-1300, maybe even 1100 on sale. I am sure you can pick one up at Fry's for less than $1K - seen them about a year ago on sale for that price when I lived in Houston.

If you really want to go cheaper, at least here in Canada we have Samsung's liquidation center, and they sell refurb plasmas for very cheap.

Both manufacturers make excellent 42" screens.

A great example of motion blur would be watching the ESPN HD Ticker scroll by on the bottom. If anyone ever watches that, it goes in and out of being extremely blurry and hard to read.

My dad owns a 46" 1080p sony bravia ~$3500 new this past year. Awesome tv, but I see the blurriness. Maybe its just the ticker... I dunno.
