Toshiba continues to support their HD DVD players

I don't log into or keep up with anything HD DVD news related anymore.. since Toshiba threw in the towel on the format and stopped building their players several month's ago.

So today I received in the mail a V 3.0 firmware update for my playa. I was mildly surprised at this.. as I'm sure they probably aren't making anymore more money off the players anymore. They continue to support a dead format, but still excellent quality players they built.

Just thought i'd pass this along for your entertainment.

    There accounts indicated that they where in the black on this product, and they needed to add programming hours to get into the red. ;)

    Careful before instaling the V3.0 firmware. Check AVS, there are several threads describing the flaws in this firmware. I installed it on my HD-A30 and went back to 2.2 after I noticed the artifacts and "jaggies". I'll see if I can find a link.

    I installled the firmware update.. and everything went smooth as far as I can tell.. no problems here.

    A good test of the firmware is in Transformers just before chapter 5. There's a pan and zoom shot of the front of Bubblebee, pay close attention to the grill. Are the lines clean and smooth or jagged?
