i've been looking for one for a little while now, the 2 i'm thinking about are the marantz cc4001 and Denon DCM-390, it seems like marantz cd changers have a lot of issues so i'm leaning toward the denon, i would prefer a 5 disc changer but would settle for a single disc if the quality is going to be better, any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated, and my budget is $350

I would recommend to save $100 more to get a second hand Rotel 1072 or Arcam 73 CD player.
If you can find Rotel 1070 CD player used, it might be around your budget.

You should try a Playstation 1 SCPH-1001 and report back with your findings. :)

Forget the two you mentioned. They are average at best. For that price range get a dedicated CDP. Sure, there are universals that will "do the job" but at that price range I would want all my $ going to the best CD playback possible. For $300± NEW I would look at a NAD C-515BEE or a Cambridge Audio 340C. I too prefer a CD changer but they are are dying breed....IMO the best on the market today is the Rotel RCC-1055 and it retails for $700.

If you are looking used, (or maybe factory refubished) there are lots of alternatives. The Rotel RCD-1072, NAD C-542 or the Cambridge Audio Azur 540C V2 come to mind as used/refurb CDPs that might be in your range.
