Seperates newbie with a couple of questions

Kind of long, sorry. I have always used a receiver(currently Pioneer Elite) but have decided to move to seperates. I think I have decided on an Outlaw 7125 for the amp. I have been looking at preowned Anthem for the processor. Can anyone tell me the difference between the Anthem AV-20 and the AV-30? I currently run the video straight from my DVD player to the TV so it doesn't need to have HDMI. One of the things that I like about Anthem is they seem to have an AM/FM tuner built in. Are there any other brands that have that feature?

I have also considered the Outlaw 990. Looks like it has an AM/FM tuner plus a few other features that I like (auto speaker setup, dual subwoofer ouput).

I run a pair of B&W 704's and B&W center channel. All Polks in the rear.

    AVM 30 vs. AVM 20

    I had nothing in the house to compare the AVM 30 with other than Anthem’s own AVM 20. This turned out to be easy -- the two are sonic equals, or at least I could discern no differences after the half hour or so required to strip one processor out of my system and patch the other one in. To the already capable AVM 20 the 30 adds two more component inputs and a second component output to feed duplicate video to another zone. Other changes include twice the memory for DSP programming code as well as a faster processor, which noticeably improves the 30’s response to menu commands. The most visible change is the blue fluorescent display and blue and red LEDs, which remind me of the interior lighting of my VW Passat. All I can say about this is that it’s just plain cool to look at. Oh, and the AVM 30 costs $400 less than the AVM 20.

    NAD also builds a tuner into their pre/pros. I would put it more in outlaws league than Anthems though.

    So would Anthem be considered a more high end piece than Outlaw or NAD?

    Than the 990 or T163 I would say yes. (just my opinion)

    Then again, you are taking something that cost about $1,200 - $1,500 and comparing it to something that cost about $3,000 - $3,400) so it should not be that much of a surprise to anyone.

    Right. But for the Anthem I would buy pre-owned, the Outlaw I would buy new. I'm still leaning toward Anthem.

    Preowned the anthem is still in the $1000-$1800 range. (depending on the 20 or 30)

    New the 990 is $699 (used is dropping close to $500) and the T163 can be had (used) for $500 or so. You are still looking at 2 - 3 times the price.
