Ok so the cable looks nice, it's the price that is dumb.

$500 for a directional 1.5m ethernet cable! WTF?

Wow - I wonder if I used it on my home network, I can say things like:
    • "OMG - my Powerpoint files look much more vivid and detailed!"
    • "Email messages are a joy to read with more depth and clarity!"
    • "Excel spreadsheets exhibit a lushness and vibrancy unparalleled when compared to using COTS UTP Cat5e or Cat6!"

    :p:D;)

Most of the people I know think I'm insane for spending 500 bucks on a subwoofer.

Maybe I should show them this cable.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

    I think it's a heck of a price for the quality !

Just look at what you're getting for only $499:

    Denon.jpg

    See ?

The Denon ethernet cable has both an OUTER and an INNER hood ! Dual hood system.

The Denon ethernet cable has a bushing that keeps the cable from pulling free from the plug ! Amazing engineering there.

The Denon ethernet cable has a special TIN bearing COPPER alloy for the cable shield ! Tin ... AND copper ! Two precious metals.

The Denon ethernet cable has a special rounded plug lever on the connector to help prevent bending or breaking ! And ..... sit down for this ..... the connector plug has .... CONTACT POINTS !!!!

You guys just don't appreciate the advanced space-age engineering that went into the design of this wonder.

Plus keep in mind that this is the long ethernet cable: 1.5 meters !

    I've emailed the Denon webmaster to see if that is possibly a price misprint;
maybe it should be $49.00 instead of $499.00.

Look at the price of some of the high end, 5 piece, 1.5 meter interconnects and compare. Still certainly no bargain, but it puts things in perspective a little more.

Definitely not a purchase you would make on its own - it is $999 AUD here, but comes "free" with some of the higher end Denon DVD players, such as the 2930 etc ($1699 AUD for that player as a comparison).

On the latest series of the Denon Link, it does pass DSD I understand to a compatible Denon AVR (like my 3808), so if you don't have the facility for HDMI 1.2 or higher in your Denon SACD player, it would be handy for that. Better to buy it with a DVD player than in stand alone format, for sure.

Not that I would buy one, but if ICs make a difference, why wouldn't this?

I don't see much difference in how this is ludicrous but people will boast and spend similar amounts running IC's, speaker cable and power cords. Obviously I wouldn't buy it and apparently neither would the majority here but to say it's stupid to market a cable like that is crazy.

This is ludicrous. $500 for a 1.5 meter ethernet cable (cat5? cat5e? cat6? shielded twisted pair?) won't improve your transmission speed when the limitation is the collision transport protocol: TCP/IP (long, boring story that you won't want to hear an explanation). You'd do better upgrading your home network from 100Mbs to 1000Mbs (gigabit) but you'll still be limited by the speed of your player's network port. Heck, Denon's $7,000 AVP-A1HDCI doesn't even run at gigabit speeds.

Now, if you want to snip off the ends and make these speaker cables that's another story but for network connectivity this is absolutely nuts unless you want bragging rights.

I guess if I had everything else I ever wanted I'd buy one but hookers and blow might be a better investment. I'm thinking $100 is more appropriate for what it is.

Seems to me this is an attempt to make this out to be product specific, which I seriously doubt. Play on ownership pride and all that ****...

IMHO even $100 is a little much, but not totally out of question.

Guys, I don't think that's a standard network cable but a Denon link cable. Still, even if it has the wires connected differently, you could make one yourself for practically nothing.

I believe the only difference between Cat5 and a DenonLink cable is shielding (at least from what I can find from Googling).

I'd love to see someone using a DenonLink setup plug in a Cat5 ethernet cable and say if it works.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

If that's the case, then it's really odd they even make this cable. Would be better just to include a regular network cable in the package. Then again, making their own expensive cable is a way to try to boost the brand image. I don't think they anticipate selling many of those.

Considering snagless Belkin with gold-plated contacts sells for $7.50 for 7 feet at Rat Shack and general purpose 2 footers go for 99 cents, I say $100 may be a little high. I suppose the dual precious metals are to keep all those racing ones & zeros from wearing down the wire so that might be a bonus.

None of that other stuff makes it worth a dime more-What really makes it worth its weight is that it has superior weather resistance. I can't tell you how many cables failed on me because of that harsh ocean air.

Oh yeah, it also has directional markings to tell you the proper way to connect it--no need to go searching for that long lost manual-its right there on the Outer hood. Now that's customer service!! The other wording for that is mentioned as "signal directional markings are provided for optimum signal transfer." They must have some magical powers in those markings.
Damn--the arrows point both ways-frick and frack-what way do I connect it now?

To me its a poor marketing move-or rookie mistake---even if the cable is $50 as opposed to $500-to go to such lengths to upsell a cable doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling about Denon.

It has to be a misprint in pricing. From the same site: http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/3431.asp An HDMI cable for $149? Or an iPod cable for $60? They seem to be more reasonable prices (relatively speaking), especially for something you can't make yourself.

    Still an over emphasized ad.

    Updated:
    Nope-not a misprint-same at Amazon:

You really gotta check out some of the reviews for this cable at Amazon:

Especially the Most Helpful review...No there are quite a few good ones there
