Howdy Polks,
I've currently purchased a set of RTi12's. These babies are capable of up to 500watts a pieces. For a receiver, I currently have a Sony STR-DE697 @ 100watts/ch.
What are my options?
Purchase a new receiver? Which one and why?
Can I add something to my current setup?
Thanks everyone, I want to "unleash" these babies.

To unleash their full potential you'll need an external amp. Does your Sony have pre-outs? If so all you need is the amp. If not then you'll need to purchase another avr or preamp and an amp.

your Sony receiver will power them and give you decent sound.. but as Ern Dog mentioned to have them reach their full potential, you will need to add an external amp.
if you don't play them to loud then your Sony receiver will be fine. don't get caught up on watts listed on receivers.
here is an example of a good beefy external amp that will power your new RTi12's and bring out the beast in em

Welcome to Club Polk Canadian12.
Unfortunately your receiver does not have preouts so you can't hook up an external amp.
Now you have to decide if you want to get a new receiver that does have them & also get external amplification, or maybe you want to get separates in the forms of a prepro & amplifier.
You could start out with just a new receiver & once you have done that start shopping for a used Amp which will give you more bang for your buck.
Lots of decisions you have to make.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -

Well which option do you want to go for? Separates or receiver? What features are most important to you? And how much do you want to spend. The last will really determine all of it.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

Are these part of an HT set up, or are you staying 2 ch.? The more info you give us, the better we can guide you to emptying your wallet:D
Just kidding. Sort of.I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -
So would this work, with my existing setup, as described above?

Welcome. Collect the information and take your time making a decision. If you jump off too quick you may not enjoy the landing. Think and buy once or do not think and buy several times. Good luck.Michael

Two channel amps are cheap but if your spending money you might as well get a 5 channel. It will be much more useful in your upgrade cycle moving forward if you are like most of us. Just IMO.My Main Gear

You need a new receiver first so that you can hook the amplifier into it!Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -
You need a new receiver before you do Anything else. As everyone esle said. From there you'll need some external amps. The problem with most places that sell Polks in Canada don't offer good amplification. Like FS, they will sell you the speaks and an AVR, they don't tell you that you will need more power.

Hello fellow Canadian,
While Audiogon and Ebay are good sources for used equipment, living in Canada reduces many potential purchases as many sellers will not ship to Canada.
IMO http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/ is your best resource; I purchased all my used gear using this site. The sellers are close and you don't have to worry about duty or excessive shipping costs. The selection isn't bad either.
