For that kind of coin on an amp, I would go used and you could get pretty high end.

Cinnova, Cinepro, Sunfire all come to mind. (the sunfires are a great deal right now new)

If I were to pick just from the amps you mentioned, I would with Rotel as I think it integrates better with the LSi's, but that is just my opinion. They are both good manufacturers and the sound you like is rather personal.

I heard the 15's used as rears at the last Chicago Polkfest and thought it sounded pretty good actually. :)

You can ask MikeC78 about it and I am sure he would have an opinion.

+1. I just picked up another Sunfire TGA5200 NIB for just over a grand. I offered a best price to DMC Electronics https://dmc-electronics.com/Default.htm (no affil) and they took it. You could get a 7400 pushing 800 WPC into those LSi's for that dough.

I have owned Rotel and liked it. I agree with others that given your budget I would look for a better amp. I own a Proceed AMP5 for my HT and it was under your budget. Good luck.

It sounds like overkill to me but I am sure they handle the light workload great. Plus they will probably last forever! :D

It's not overkill, it's nice to be surrounded in bass. My mains have 15" woofers, rears have 2 8" woofers, and I still use a sub. It also helps minimize room nodes.

I haven't had a chance to listen to the Rotel LSi match up, but I was told that the NAD T975 was more "musical" than the Rotel. Could you describe the Rotel's sound.

a tower speaker for rears is overkill.. yeah i'm sure it sounds good.. the only time I would use towers that matched my fronts would be for DVD-Audio or SACD. otherwise it's not needed.

towers can't be mounted high enough for home theater to give you that high level surround sound needed for home theater. that's why it's recommended the rears be placed two or three feet above your head.

enjoy your set up. it's killer i'm sure..

I upgraded my LSi7 rears to LSi15s, and it made a big improvement. The sound is more precise and cohesive, and the bass is a big improvement. Additionally, I like to play CDs in the multi-stereo mode, and using the 15s really makes the music sound better.

In my case, it was buy the 15s or buy the FX/7/9 PLUS a stand (can't wall mount them due to irregular room dimensions). The stands push the bundle into 15s price territory. Seemed like a no-brainer call to me.

I agree that tower speakers can be overkill for surrounds.

However, it came down to space and no where to mount(FX's) surrounds in my room setting. I also have little rugrats running around, so speaker stands for me were not an option either. From my listening position, I can't really complain on how the 15's perform. If I really wanted to raise the 15's, I could always build a box so they sit higher, but I have no real issues at the height they are at stock.

BTW, I also got a killer deal on the extra set of 15's, so for me it was a "No-Brainer".

It is amazing how great multi-stereo works, at least with the Sony 7100ES used as a pre-amp. It is as if the CDs were actually recorded in 4 channel sound. I primarily listen to classical now, and just cannot believe how much better it sounds when all 4 speakers are in use.

Of course, Luddites always have the option of just using 2 channel.

I use a Rotel 1080 2 channel amp to power my Lsi 25s and a 5 channel Rotel 1085 to run my LSiC and future surround upgrades .... it all sounds great to me! I will be doing a review of the 1085 this weekend (long overdue). I havent owned any other amps though to compare them but for my Home Theater (80%) and music (20%) needs they work very well for the purpose ....

:) I totally agree. I run regular CDs using the 5-channel effects setting on my Yamaha receiver. It opens up the sound a good deal. To me, most 2 channel mixes sound somewhat flat in comparison now. When I recently purchased and played some SACD discs, I find that I don't need the effect turned on, (and in fact, I can't use effects for the 6-input setting anyway), but the 5-channel SACD mixes sound great. Billy Joel's 52nd Street and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon sound tremendous.
